Why?

I was asked why I wanted to take my children from their cushy lives and "subject" them to such hardships that we will encounter living off grid.

Well, I want my children to know what is real and what is important, not video games, not tv shows, not who's dress is the prettiest or what fast food joint we can eat at tonite.

I want to remove the chemicals from their food. I don't want GMO foods. I don't want cancer causing agents in the dinner I serve. I don't want processed foods, whose only goal in our lives in to create sickness. I want what God created for us to eat.

I want to remove the lies that mainstream society tells us so that we value our worth through the wrong eyes. We don't value a homemaker's role or our childbearing role. We dress our girls like tramps, not matter what the age and then we wonder why we have a sexual perversion problem. I want to remove this, as much as I can, from their lives.

I want them to feel a sense of accomplishment for a job well done, for a responsibility met, not a fake pat on the back for passing a math test that has been dumbed down so no one feels left out,

I want my children to know how to take care of themselves, in every way. Why buy an easy bake oven when your daughters (and sons) can use a real one?

Satan is everywhere. Mainstream Christians embrace holidays that are meant for demons and false gods. So their kids can fit in, so they can have fun. With no regard to Satan's influence. TV shows centering on magic and witches, sexual immorality, murder - are these what we should be accepting/watching, so we can be like the neighbors?

I am removing my children from mainstream society because I don't like mainstream society. I don't want my children to fit in - I want them to stand out for Christ.
I want my children to learn something, "not fit in"
I want my children to know how to take care of themselves, not panic when the lights go out and you can't use the electric stove (and that day is coming, my friends)
I want my children to realize that money is not the endall.

And those are just some of the reasons I am removing my children from mainstream society!

Hi Tami, I am sorry you feel like you have to explain yourself to ones that like to diss what you are doing. Truth is, it is your right(at least for now) in this country to live your life as you see fit. As long as your childrens needs are being met it is no ones business. We lived off grid and with no running water in a little 288 sq ft cabin for 18 months, it was a peaceful exsistance and one the Lord led us to. I too felt like I had to defend my family's choice to others that didn't get it, but you do not have to. Our reasons for doing what we did, was very different than yours. We did it because the Lord clearly showed us we were move here and become self-reliant we did not do so to get away from the things you speak of, because they were never an issue in our lives to begin with. But no matter the reason, you must do what you feel you must do. Its no ones business. Just enjoy the journey with your family its a great one to be on!

I look forward to reading about your journey.

Amen, and good for you for being able to stick faithfully to your convictions without having the fear of men (women). May God continue to bless you and your family.

Exactly! Very well said. I don't want my children to value mainstream society either. The right thing to do is often times not the easy thing to do. Sending encouragement and prayers your way. :)

Amen Tami! And also to The Homestead Lady! God is leading many to seek outside of "mainstream".... and as for the "less chemicals & processed foods" - funny, since I just blogged about that yesterday on my blog http://www.thepillarshome.blogspot.com I made a lovely chocolate mud cake using pumpkin seed meal & I've put the receipe there if you want to try it out Tami. As for the "holidays" - I'm so cranky every time I see the stupid hallowween rubbish in the shops... Grrrr......
Big Hugs, Sharm

You do an excellent job of putting it into words. It's exactly what we're doing (except we're not off grid but have the ability to make it without the grid if we need to.) Continuing to pray for your family!

You said it in a nutshell. And one good thing about being challenged about why we are doing something is that it makes us stop and think, put it into words, and clarify what we are feeling in our spirits. It can also be encouraging to others who are searching, or who feel alone in what God is calling them to. We have faced similar questions about our move off-grid, and even though it can feel bad sometimes, it does have its benefits. I appreciate you sharing!
