Homemade Cleaners I Like to Make

Homemade cleaners are less expensive and better  health-wise than the store bought ones. These are a few items I make myself and I thought today I would share them with you.

While there are many many different homemade detergent recipes floating around the web this is the one I prefer.

1 bar  soap, I use whatever I was able to get cheaply and that is usually Ivory.
1 cup washing soda
1 cup borax powder
1 cup baking soda

Grate the soap and put it in a large pot.  Add 12 cups water and heat it until the soap melts, stirring occasionally.   Add washing soda, borax and baking soda.  Stir til it's dissolved.  Remove from heat.  Then pour 8 cups hot water into a 5 gallon size  bucket.   Add your pot of soap to this. Now add 2 gallons plus 12 cups of water and stir.
Let it sit 24 hours before you use it. I use a half of a cup when I do a load.

My carpet cleaner is one I stole from my friend Renee.! I changed it a bit to suit my nose  so play around with it and find what you like. I loved this so much I got on the phone and called to tell her thank you for posting it!

1 16 oz box of baking soda
20 drops of tea tree oil- for cleaning I use the one from Walmart
10 drops of lavender oil

All-purpose cleaner

Add water and vinegar half and half in a spray bottle, add 10-20 drops of tea tree oil (depending on how strong you like it). Reminds me of Pine Sol!

Here's the lavender oil I have been using. I love ALL their oils!

I make our cleaners too. Saves a lot of money.

When we were really tight on money, I actually changed our laundry detergent to just baking soda and borax. We didn't notice much of a difference in how it was cleaning, so I've kept it that way for over a year now.

I have these on my to do list! I love using simple cleaning products, and since I've been using them for about a year now, I've noticed a HUGE difference in my smell-er! I can't walk down the detergent/soap isles without covering my nose. It's SO strong to me, and usually gives me a headache.
