I Am A Sticker Mom

What do I mean by that? I mean that I use stickers to encourage my kids in all sorts of areas.
My dining room wall is covered in charts!
We have one for going to bed with no problem (not really needed by the older kids but it helps the little ones to "outdo" the others). 1 star a day.
We have one for doing schoolwork with no problem. (this  is again not  for all but mainly one, but competition is not a bad thing!) 1 star a day.
We also have one for memory verses. If you memorize that week's verse you get a star.
When you reach 5 stars per week for each chart you get a a candy bar for each... I  buy an 8 pack of candy bars at a time so I save money!
We have one chart  for extras, meaning if I should be the one doing the job but I just can't "force" myself, I will offer it  up for grabs and whoever does it gets 2 or more stars! Or if they offer to say, make dinner. I f I say yes- and I usually do!, then they get extra stars..  25 of these stars earns $1. But we limit these !!

I debated on the whole stars and charts thing but it works for us . The idea isn't to bribe them- if it was then the payoffs would be higher, but rather a small thank you from me to them. They don't earn allowances but they all create jobs where they get paid. One son has a lawn care business, another does yard work for Daddy,  they set up yard sales, dog walking businesses,  car washing, housecleaning for others, lemonade stands and more. They also , of course , have daily chores that they do and do not get paid for.

My kids get treats other ways . We take one child alone each week for lunch and a grocery shopping trip, where they get a candy bar, a drink and one other small treat  of their choice. I am pleased that they usually pick a pack of gum to take home and share with the others!  We wander the toy aisle and the gardening center before the food shopping.

I hope I am teaching my children a good work ethic and also showing gratitude for good behavior.

I did this with my daughter when spotty training and she loved it. We found her "potty" sticker covered paper about 3months ago and she had a good laugh...now she is almost 16! Do what works! I love your kids getting a treat to share with the others!

We used the stickers for our children when they were young and found they worked really well for our family too. We also used to have special times where we would have time alone with 1 child - it's a great thing to do when they are growing up.
