Culture, Culture, Culture

Everyone always screams culture culture culture when this subject comes up so  i will tell you why i am mainly dresses in today's culture. ~smile~

I don't believe the Bible says "don't wear pants if you're female"  However , in today's culture, where pants are so accepted and so visible it is the woman who wears a dress or skirt who "sticks out".  Wow! What a platform for Christ!
Every man I know says he thinks a woman is more feminine in a dress and women are always saying to me- "You look so dressed up and pretty while I look frumpy."    So yes dresses in today's culture do make a statement. ( it has to be the right dress of course- you can't wear a low-cut minidress and call it feminine.!)
I am treated differently by both sexes when I wear a dress. Men are more likely to help me in whatever I am doing, more likely to open the door for me, and speak with a "cleaner" mouth than when I wear pants. I get nods and soft hellos - in a polite way- when I wear a dress but NOT when I wear pants.  it speaks respect I believe. it's like iIm not one of the gang but I stand out.

I do believe there are times when pants are appropriate but not for the most part. That's my opinion of course but it came after a lot of study.  Why not let culture be our guide since that is what is always brought up?

Think how you act when you wear a dress instead of pants. Is it different? Do you feel differently? More feminine?   I believe what God is calling us women to do is to celebrate our femininity.

I agree with all. We've been dresses/skirts for 1 1/2 years. It does make a difference! And honestly, they are just more comfortable than pants! But I did study it, pray about it, discuss it with my husband and daughters in depth before we made the switch. I can't see going back to jeans!

It is so easy to get caught in the culture trap. Recent conversations with a family member were about cultures/trends and how we handle them in our families. Thank you for boldness of speech to share the truth.

We do both, dress/skirt and pants. We mostly wear pants when dress would be more inmodest then pants (ie monkeying around in the park, with 3 very active little girls that are still learning the feminine art, pants are sometime more practical)

But I think that our culture is in this "unisex" or gender neutral phase and makes thing more complicated.... with you look around and you can't tell if the person in front of you is a man or a women, their is a big problem.

So when we do wear pants, we make sure that they are girly, that we still act like girls, that we are still feminine, make sense?

Excellent post. I have found that I am also treated differently when I wear a skirt. I blogged about this one time, I hope I can find it and come link back to it.

Thanks for participating in Feminine Friday!

I agree, I know I feel much more feminine and lady-like wearing a dress or skirt. Sure, I do wear pants on occasion, but generally when I'm doing chores around the farm such as gardening, or when I need a bit more leg protection (like hiking in tall grass).

Blessings!

I absolutely feel more lady like and feminine when I wear skirts and dresses.I think I carry myself differently too. People treat me like a lady when I am out and about also.

As far as pants occasionally, when we were helping my parents clear land and burn brush after a tornado, wearing a skirt would have been dangerous, so I wore pants.

Thanks for your thoughtful post.

When I switched my blog over, I think I inadvertently stopped following you. I am glad I found you again.

I agree 100%! I had a man run over to the door the other day and open it as I was entering the store. It made me feel good and respected. It's almost as if dressing like a "traditional" woman and I mean that as in dressing the way women use to be expected to dress, you bring out the chivalry in men. It is a custom that is almost non-existent these days. Great post!
