What to do in a Pinch

ah yes, we have all been in a pich a time or two. i want to to share just a quick few tips i have picked up thru the hard times.

in a pinch- dishwashing liquid can be used in the wash machine.

plain ole baking soda makes a great toothpaste. now i still make my own but add a few items.

vinegar and baking soda make for a fine shampoo and rinse.

use a glue stick when wrapping a gift if you run out of tape.

foil makes for a shiny gift wrapping.

quilts hung on the windows keep drafts out (and make you feel like Ma Ingalls)

baking soda used alone will wash your clothes.

cornstarch can be worn as a cosmetic powder IF you wipe it down a lot so you aren't whiter than a sheet.

daddies can sleep under barbie blankets if his is not clean.

in a pinch- buy rice, potatoes, eggs, salsa,(storebrand is fine) peanut butter, oatmeal and bananas- oatmeal can be eaten for a meal and used to make cookies. bananas can be eaten plain, and turned into bread or muffins, peanut butter is for sandwiches, to dip the bananas in, to be made into fudge or to make cookies, rice can be added to a soup to stretch it, eaten with a dollup of brown sugar on top as a meal, potatoes can be baked or fried for a meal, sliced up raw as a snack, sliced and coated with different seasonings and sauces for a meal, turned into french fries for something different, or put in a soup. they also make great handwarmers if you live in a cold climate ;) make tortillas and dip in the salsa for a festive snack and add the rest of the salsa to eggs and plop them on those tortillas for a satisfying meal. my son adds salsa to his baked potatoes too!

in a pinch- girls can wear their brother's old sneakers til the next paycheck comes thru.

We Found Him

i know it's been said "i love you" are the 3 most wonderful words to hear but i disagree. "we found him" beats those strung together letters by a mile and more.

let me explain: sunday we went to walmart and my teen son Ben and i were looking for jeans for him. we were busy searching for his size when out of the corner of my eye i saw my 2 yr old walk off. i barked "get back here" but he apparently chose to ignore me. so i walked around the jeans and attempted to grab him. however he wasn't there! or behind me. or next to the shirts. or on the office supply aisle. or anywhere.

i took off running. so did Ben. we ran thru every department close enough to make sense. then we started running thru departments that were too far away to make sense.

by now i was praying in a loud voice, making bargains along the way. PLEASE GOD, ANYTHING BUT THIS. punish me anyway you want but like this. i know i am not perfect but PLEASE GOD ANYTHING BUT THIS.

by now they had shut the doors and several clerks were running with me. rather they were running and i was hyperventilating prayers in the customer service area where they FORCED me to wait. Ben was still running. and praying.

FINALLY someone saw him and yelled to Ben " here he is". Ben said Andrew ran towards him and it was like a scenr from a movie with the 2 lovers stretching out their arms and running towards each other. :)

from afar, knowing it was cruel to make me wait the extra 30 seconds it would take Ben to walk to me in customer service, they yelled "WE FOUND HIM"

and that ladies is the sweetest set of words i have heard.

and yes i would gladly have accepted the terms of any of those bargains i made with God but because i have a precious Saviour who willingly laid down His life for me, i don't have to.
