Responding

just my opinion, given with God;s love, not stirring up wrath.

Psa 68:11
The Lord gave the word: great was the company of those that published it.

i believe this is telling us to proclaim the Gospel! share what God has done for you!
being a witness to what God has done in your life is different than standing up (anywhere) and explaining verses in the Bible.

Phl 4:2
I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord.
Phl 4:3
And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellow labourers, whose names are in the book of life.

does labor with ( work with) actually mean teaching? can't it mean women working in a different capacity than teaching? if women help prepare a dinner to host missionaries are they not helping ? are they not showing the fruits of the Spirit?
if women get "on stage" and sing for a fellowship is that not working alongside to help spread the Word of God?

these people are called laborours- not teachers, apostles or anything that indicated that they were "in charge". same for the men listed here.

prophesying is definitely for women!! however prophesying is telling what God has said to you. people can choose to believe it or not. but it isn't interpreting the Bible and teaching .

thanks for all the great comments! keep "em coming!

Teaching

1Ti 2:12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence.

teach- didaskō
meaning

1) to teach

a) to hold discourse with others in order to instruct them, deliver didactic discourses

b) to be a teacher

c) to discharge the office of a teacher, conduct one's self as a teacher

2) to teach one

a) to impart instruction

b) instill doctrine into one

c) the thing taught or enjoined

d) to explain or expound a thing

f) to teach one something

Tts 2:4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children,
Tts 2:5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed

teach-sōphronizō meaning
1) restore one to his senses

2) to moderate, control, curb, disciple

3) to hold one to his duty

4) to admonish, to exhort earnestly

i believe that women are not to teach over men. not in a church setting. not outside of a church setting. witnessing- testifying to what God has done in your life = isn't teaching. imo

women can prophecy. it says so in the bible. women can pray. it says so in the bible.

here's what is new in my thinking. women shouldn't be teaching other women either. if you study out the word teach used in 1st tim. it means to teach the Word of God. it doesn't say but it's ok to teach it to women, just not men. it says don't teach.

think about it- back in bible times there was no ladies class. there was no sunday school. it was just families sitting together listening to a pastor. so if women were allowed to teach other women and children when were they doing it? not in church!

where were they doing it? at home! they were teaching young women BY EXAMPLE. not reading from the bible and stating their thoughts on the verses but rather leading by example in loving their husbands, taking care of their families.

so i guess that means that i shouldn't be teaching from my blog either, huh? unless i am teaching you how to be a keeper at home :)

Jan. 1, 2011

i am attempting to read a few devotionals daily and i did so today and this is what i came away with if you put them all together. :)

we are entering a new year. a time where we don't know what will happen in the future, what our needs will be or anything. BUT God does! and He is paying attention and guiding us.He isn't leaving us alone.
what can we do? we can read the Word He provided us with and pray for understanding of what we are reading. we must pray that we are teachable.we must pray that we do what we read, not just read it.
how do we do that? we must yield our whole selves to Him. we must strive to glorify Him with our every act and thought.
