keepers at home

i found this post, written by Gene Long, and just had to share! i love it!!

The Greek word translated “keepers at home is oikourous.
This word is derived from two Greek words. The first, oikos, means a house, a dwelling, or, by metonymy, a household or family. The second, ouros, refers to a keeper, watcher or guardian, i.e., one who has the oversight and responsibility for something. Thus, the basic significance of oikourous is that of a “housekeeper,” that is, one who watches over a household and family, seeing to it that all members are cared for, and all things maintained in good order.

Oikourous is used only in the New Testament in Titus 2:5; therefore, in seeking to accurately discern its meaning we must look to the Greek literature of the New Testament era. There, the word oikourous meant watching or keeping the house. It was employed in reference to a watchdog and to a rooster, but more germane to the context of Titus 2:5, oikourous also meant keeping at home, and was employed as a substantive, “housekeeper,” to indicate the mistress of the house.

Furthermore, it was specifically used in praise of a good wife. Interestingly, oikourous is utilized contemptuously of a man who refused to go out to war, designating him a “stay-at-home” man. The verbal form, oikoureo, meant to watch or keep the house. It was used of women to indicate those who were at home to watch over the affairs of a household, and of men to designate those who stayed at home to avoid military service. Other closely related words such as
1) oikourema, meant keeping the house and staying at home, and was used to refer to women as the “stay-at-homes”;
2) oikouria, referred to women as those employed in the work of housekeeping; 3) oikourios, meant the wages or rewards for the work of keeping the house, but also designated, significantly, keeping children within the doors of the house, i.e., keeping them at home.

On the basis of this word study, it is concluded that oikourous was primarily used in the positive sense to indicate both the nature and sphere of a married woman’s work. The nature of her work is to manage the affairs of her household, and the sphere of her work is the home. It is important to note that oikourous and its cognates all included the idea of staying at home.

facts i find interesting

No other animal drinks cow's milk, not even calves once they are weaned. Dr. Benjamin Spock, the U.S.'s leading authority on child care, spoke out against feeding "cow's glue" to children, saying it can cause anemia, allergies, and diabetes, thereby setting kids up for obesity and heart disease, the number one cause of death in the US.

Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract, thus preventing absorption of nutrients. Cancer feeds on mucus. Replace milk with unsweetened soy milk and thus starve the cancer cells.

In 37% of Americans, the thirst mechanism is so weak that it is often mistaken for hunger!

Preliminary research indicates that 8-10 glasses of water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up to 80% of sufferers.

Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the risk of colon cancer by 45%, plus it can slash the risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.

To carry Coca-Cola syrup (the concentrate) the commercial truck must use the Hazardous material place cards reserved for Highly corrosive materials.

Over half of the U.S.A. population is drinking fluoridated water, which is now linked to Alzheimer's Disease, cancer and arthritis. Bone cancer has been linked to fluoride in a 10 year study by the National Toxicology Program of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. This sensational news was disclosed in an exclusive report in Medical Tribune, December 28, 1989, but ignored by the mass media. Also, Proctor and Gamble, the maker of Crest (a fluoride toothpaste), presented studies to the U.S. Public Health Service, showing that fluoride tested positive as a cancer-causing agent at the lowest concentrations used.

Hitler used fluorine poisoning on concentration camp victims. Its effect on humans is to suppress responses in the occipital lobe, the part of the brain that makes us resist domination. they're piping it into your house right now through the taps, and it's in your toothpaste.

Happy Father's Day

You could call Sonora Smart Dodd the "Mother of Father's Day." After all, the holiday, celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, was inspired by her.

Dodd's mother died in 1898 during childbirth, leaving her father, William Jackson Smart, to raise Dodd and her five younger brothers (including the newborn baby) on a remote farm near Spokane, Wash. While attending a Mother's Day sermon in 1909, Dodd decided that fathers deserve the same recognition.

Within a year, she -- along with some help from her pastor, the Rev. Conrad Bluhm, the Spokane YMCA and the Ministerial Alliance -- did it: June 19, 1910, was designated as the first Father's Day. Throughout Spokane that day, Sunday sermons were themed around the importance of fatherhood.

Sonora Smart Dodd, the "Mother of Father's Day," which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year.
By 1924, the holiday had gained some national prominence. President Calvin Coolidge that year recognized Father's Day and made it known that he wanted more states to get involved.

In 1966, President Lyndon Johnson signed an order proclaiming the third Sunday in June as Father's Day. He even requested that flags on all government buildings be flown that day.

In 1972, President Richard Nixon signed a proclamation permanently observing Father's Day on the third Sunday in June. And today, Father's Day is celebrated in over 50 countries around the globe on various days throughout the year.

All because of a young girl who appreciated her dad's love and wanted to see his efforts acknowledged. William Jackson Smart died in 1919, so he got to celebrate 10 Father's Days with his grateful daughter.

The Fistgate Conference:
Graphic homosexual handouts and paraphernalia given to kids at the Fistgate conference run by "Safe Schools" czar Kevin Jennings in 2000
Extremely disturbing. See links below.
POSTED: Dec 23, 2009

The infamous “fistgate” conference in 2000 -- run by Obama's “Safe Schools” czar Kevin Jennings and which included kids as young as 12 -- didn’t end with the horrible tape recordings of workshops where children were taught about homosexual sexual practices. There were also hideous handouts given to kids at that conference. (About 200 young teens and 300 adults attended the event.)

Jennings and his GLSEN conference talk about "tolerance" and "safety." But it's really all about persuading children to be comfortable with homosexual sex.

What you are about to see is extremely disturbing. But it's happening in your schools. And it’s a window into the mindset of Kevin Jennings and the homosexual activists targeting children. (Many of these were first discussed by Brian Camenker and Scott Whiteman in 2000 in media interviews, and were also described by the "veteran teacher" in the Massachusetts News article in 2000.) Now that people across the country are finally paying more attention, we're publishing them. They are truly beyond belief.
These were handed out at the Conference to children:

(WARNING: The pages linked to below are VERY disturbing.)

Boston GLASS packet (see inside). Boston GLASS describes itself as a “drop-in center for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender, and questioning young people between the ages of 13 and 25.” The group handed out to kids a packet including: oral sex and fisting instructions, male and female condoms, a bizarre transgender sex/hormone injection pamphlet, 'dental dam' instructions, lubricant, and more. One flier shows a latex-gloved fist pointing at a woman's naked crotch.

Sequin packet (see inside). With male and female condoms, lubricant, and a "fisting glove." (The teacher who attended the conference and later wrote about it guessed that the girl handing out these bags was about 15.) More . . .

First AIDS Kit (see inside). From Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Foundation, handed out at conference by Boston GLASS. Includes: male and female condoms, bandages and anticeptic towelettes (in case the sex gets rough, the teacher was told), lubricant, various literature on STDs and "safer sex", and the Teen Yellow Pages to lead kids to various anti-family organizations. More . . .

Planned Parenthood handouts (see inside). Includes a pamphlet for kids describing abortion, voluntary sterilization, contraception, and other services they offer, and a graphic pamphlet on how to use a condom. More . . .

Other handouts (see inside). "Stop the Hate" pamphlet; feminist book catalog including books on prostitution, transsexuality, and erotic fiction; Youth Pride 2000 poster; National Gay & Lesbian Task Force button, etc. More . . .

Diabetes Risk: Brown Rice vs White Rice
Submitted by Armen Hareyan on 2010-06-15
All about:

A very large study, conducted by U.S. researchers shows a close link between white rice consumption and type 2 diabetes risk. On the other hand the study also shows that increased consumption of brown rice significantly decreases the risk of developing diabetes. The researchers say if you don't like brown rice, at least mix them together because brown rice releases glucose. While the researchers are studying to find treatment for diabetes, decrease your risk by starting to use more brown rice recipes.

Much of the world's population consumes rice. Sometimes people eat a lot rice. However, a study by a team of scientists from Harvard University, published in the June 14 issue of the Archives of Internal Medicine, shows that people who eat white rice five times a week had 17 percent higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes compared to those who eat only once a month.

The reason lies in white rice nutrition facts. White rice is refined and then processed. During this process it loses its nutritional qualities.

Therefore, researchers recommend people giving their preferences to recipes that are cooked using brown rice. Actually the recommend adding other types of wholegrain foods to your diet as well. These are more healthier options as brown rice and wholegrain foods are known for releasing glucose more gradually.

This study shows that regular consumption of brown rice - 5 servings a week - reduces the risk of diabetes by 36 percent.

About 39 765 men and 157 463 women participated in this study. Studying this cohorts, the researchers also took into consideration the updated diet, lifestyle practices, and disease status of these people. Age factor was also taken into consideration.

This study points out how important it is for health to eat whole grain food. This must obviously be done in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle, which will include following a healthy diet and exercising regularly. Healthy eating habits are one of the most important factors affecting our health.

a giveaway you need to know about

straight from the raising homemakers site

We are giving a copy of this wonderful book away to one of our readers! Also in the bundle will be two CD’s with audio from two important talks Anna Sofia & Elizabeth have given. The first is called Strength and Dignity for Daughters, which speaks on how a daughter can be a joy to her father and a tremendous help in his work, while looking to him as her hero. What Our Father Taught Us About BoysThe second is called, What Our Father Taught Us About Boys. In this talk they give practical advice on navigating the tricky waters of relationships with boys, and how these relationships, properly conducted, can be edifying and strengthening. This is one of my favorite talks by them, as they share about treating boys not as possible suitors (believe me, even three-year-olds think that way, because I was one of them!), but as brothers in Christ.
