food and qs

well today was dark and dreary all day long- just like i like it! yes i'm "weird" that way. ~smile~ i like the days most people don't ! it was in the 30's so not too bad :)

today for lunch we had sliced yams coated in coconut oil and brown sugar and butter then baked. mmmmmm good! yams are 25 cents a lb at walmart so go grab a bunch!

for dinner we had the chicken stirfry i told you about. i used my new chopper rebekah bought me for christmas- i told you about the candy but forgot to mention that!- and chopped garlic to mix with olive oil for a "sauce" for the vegies. then i added chicken and poured the whole thing over rice. that's on sale at walmart too :)

tomorrow we are having sausage and onion subs for dinner. i bought 21 packages of sausage!!! it is normally $3.82 a pack but was on sale for $1. i cleared them out!
i already chopped it up and mixed it with eggs and cheese for one meal. a few chopped onions (thank you rebekah) added flavor.

tomorrow we have michael home all day! yay! to celebrate he is making us pecan sticky buns. we have quite a few pecans shelled now so we are ready to go. i love having all these pecan trees right in my yard! i'm also making banana bread.

i was recently asked some qs and i thought i'd answer them now :)

jennie asks-If you were on a desert Island. What 1 item would you take with you?
A BOAT FILLED WITH GAS AND A PHONE SYSTEM!

CCMOMMY asked- What is the one product you cant live without? mmmm-coffee! lol but i'll also say vinegar becuz you clean with it, soak your grains with it,do your laundry and dishes with it, kill weeds with it,cook with it, and so much more!

arlene asks-If you could take a trip anywhere in the world where would you go?
tough call- italy or jerusalem

jillian asks-If you had a harried day and had to chose between a clean house and teaching a planned lesson to your children, which would you do?

i hate to say it but a clean house makes the grade! the kids learn homemaking skills and organization and i have a bit of sanity, i always say "a tidy outside makes for a tidy inside :)

brand new day asks-What would you buy for YOURSELF if you had say...$100? so tough but i will say kitchen items. i love glass bowls. and i need a new blender. oh and a dehydrator! plus jars for storage. (i'll have to post a pic someday of my kitchen!)

rachel asks- Do you bake a lot? :) yep- nearly everyday! sarah does a lot of it too tho- we each have our specialties.

well that wraps up another post!

visions

"Without vision the people perish." -Proverbs 29:18

what is your vision? for yourself? for your family?

read the bible thru all the way?
get a garden growing?
start homeschooling this year? or change the way you do it now?
stop eating so many processed foods?
bake bread for the first time?
give up soda?
exercise?

teaching your children diligence?

get your home organized? crates and bins are on sale at walmart! i tell you- i did this in november , put everything in my closet in rubbermaid bins, and i love opening the doors and seeing all that organization!!

have a two year old who needs to learn how to put toys in the toybox?
need to show your 9 yr old how to cook chili? mine does and he does a great job!

i'm not talking new year's resolutions. too cutesy and they don't usually get followed thru on. but rather a true vision for you and your family.

comments on YOUR vision?

my thoughts

i believe God tells women to be home full time. a keeper at home , (titus 2:3-5)
if you study it out in the original language, it truly means a woman who stays home to tend to the home and family.
we are told to keep the homefires burning. what that meant in bible times was to keep the fire going all day- they DEPENDED on that fire for cooking and warmth etc. if you are not home your fire might go out.

when we pray for those who persecute us we are told it is as if we are heaping burning coals on their head. this was a shame in bible times- to have to go to someone and beg coals becuz you had let your fire go out. so when we pray that we are shaming them.

women as keepers at home would have to go and beg coals from other women if they let their fires go out and they carried them on their heads- everyone saw their shame.

2Ti 3:6 states that there are those who will seek the women to deceive them. notice where they go to do that ? the home!

adam was told to go out to work, eve was not. gen 3:19

Eph 5:24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. how can we be subject to a boss- a man (or woman) who is not our own husband?

the proverbs 31 woman didn't work outside the home! she made sashes and delivered them to the merchants- the merchants are the ones who sold them!! think consignment store!

she planted a field with her earnings you say? i earn money too! i clip coupons, do surveys , enter giveaways, etc and earn money or save it. then i can use that $ to buy other things. i won a bracelet appraised at $600 last week- i can sell that baby! no time for that? that's why you are home- so you WILL have time for that!

why do so many people- both men and women -think it is beneath a woman to stay home? to do housework? to take care of their own children?
why do so many people think you are wasting yourself if you stay home? do you really think i watch tv all day? and eat candy ? do you not think i am managing a home - 9 lives in this home!- managing our very lives? and someone thinks i am wasting my talent? bah humbug! what a true homemaker does isn't easy folks! she may take a break daily but so "working" people.

meals are not made themselves! and while you can buy hamburger helper are you really serving your family the best? processed foods are bad for you so why do you serve them to your family? can you make the noodles instead? yes you can! and as for those who say they have no time to do that - THAT IS WHY YOU ARE HOME IN THE FIRST PLACE! TO SERVE YOUR FAMILY!!!
i will not lie to you and say i never eat something "bad" for me. i won't say i never ever go to mcdonalds. i do - and i hate myself for it becuz i feel as if i am letting down or failing my family.

working women often rely on fast food for meals daily! they are giving their families cancer causing chemicals, artery clogging fats (not all fats are bad!!) and more horrible things just for the sake of convenience!!

what about making your cleaners? too much time and trouble right? spray those chemicals instead and give your kids asthma and cancer. you don't have time to make window cleaner-you don't leave the workplace til 6!

i guess what it boils down to is i believe women should stay home and SERVE their families.

i know i'll get hate mail- i always do when i state my opinion on this subject- but just remember- it's my blog! this is what you will always get here- a woman who believes women should be keepers at home. i also believe that sometimes women work for money to buy wants not needs. i also know that sometimes women work for money for needs. if you go back in their histories you'll find mistakes were made along the way that led them to that point. in my opinion they should work towards God's best for them - as described in the scriptures-so they can abandon the career/job.

why would you not want God's best for yourself?

so much on monday

i feel like i haven't blogged for forever!

mon-chili and crackers
tues-bean burritos
wed-chicken stirfry
thurs-beans and rice
fri-chicken tacos

wow! what a christmas! we have not been able to exchange gifts for years! and this year we did!! hubby outdid himself. :)

i got a digital camera!! i will post pics when i figure out how lol
i also received all the paula deen pots and pans, knives and baking sheets, and wooden spoon collection. ( parker bought 1 and daddy bought the rest)
then we hit walmart for the after christmas sale and bought all new white dishes (4 plates for $2.50 is a good deal in my opinion!) and now i have service for 20.
we also finally bought a bedspread.

my dear friend tammy gave me 2 teacups to add to my collection. i'll get pics up soon :)
my dd sarah made me a pillow! with chenelle yarn.
my dd hannah gave me a mug with the nativity scene on it. how precious that she spent her own money at the thrift store- my favorite place!- and bought one for me and for daddy. (his had a koala on it)
bekah chose candy for me :) so did jamison. ALWAYS a good gift! lol

yay for me!

i am not boasting, i am sharing. honestly! i am so overwhelmed! i am so blessed!!!!!

i have worked out a new schedule i am attempting to implement today. so far so good.
with 5 kids to school it can get a bit hectic around here so i am attempting to streamline things a bit. i am ordering the rod and staff preschool for jamison. i used it for ben and really liked it. we have combined science and history so we are all together instead of doing things separately.we are using abeka right now. i change things as i need to :)

i have a few rules i live by and i thought "hey why not share them?" cuz i know you are dying to know lol
i don't buy meat over $2 a lb.

i don't buy produce over $1 a lb

we eat food God made, not man. we have slipped so much in this rule since moving to a small town with no access to "good food", but i am trying! this means sliced raw potato instead of potato chips.

3 meals, 3 snax- no more.

exercise daily. i chose walking but with the cold sometimes i run in place in the house :)

devotions before other stuff. yes i slip on that sometimes. right now i am reading a page a day from these daily devotionals-Jesus calling , streams in the desert, kay arthur's book on the gospel of John, the power of a praying wife and the power of a praying parent.

only enter giveaways for stuff i need or plan to give as gifts. i gave 15 giveaway winnings as christmas gifts this year :) the $85 purse i kept for myself! sorry!)

well time is running away from me so i will stop now but i plan some homemaking posts this week and i am having a giveaway myself soon! so stay tuned! and thanks for all the new followers!

if i win i don't need to buy it!

i won another giveaway - number 158! this time it was children's vitamins :)

i have had many people wonder about my contest winnings - how much time each day does it take, do i enter more then i win so is it really worth it, do i win things that i need or are they just wants - here i am trying to answer those questions.

i take about 2 hours a day (not all at once) to enter contests and giveaways. i only enter giveaways that are something i really want but can't afford or are something my family needs. for example, i recently won a box of ecologically sound cleaners. 7 full size bottles. now tell me you don't need those!
i won several bars of handmade soaps throughout the past year - that is several bars of soap i don't need to buy. :)
yes i enter to win things i don't need, like makeup or jewelry. not always, only if it's something i really want. or can use as a gift. sometimes the piece of jewelry is ugly so i don't enter! lol just like i don't enter for diaper bags - i have 3 and don't need anymore!

i have won 14 giveaways recently that i intend to give as christmas gifts. so that is 14 gifts i don't need to buy! hubby likes that!

some people think i waste my time entering giveaways. i don't. does the science book i won and use for school count as a good winning? it saved me from buying it.
the coconut oil i won is very expensive but i use it for baking and cooking. was the 32 oz bottle i won a waste of time? nope!

don't enter for things you don't like or can't imagine using. if it's ugly don't enter. if you don't have a baby and the giveaway is for a stroller don't enter. (but if you did and won you could donate it :) )

i consider my giveaways (and the freebies i send off for) part of my job. i receive over 30 magazines a month FOR FREE. i love to read so this is great. if i win a shirt for my son that costs $10 and he needs a shirt that saves me from spending $10 at the store. i may not "earn" money as a homemaker but i "save" money. this is an example of Pro 31:16 She considereth a field, and buyeth it: with the fruit of her hands she planteth a vineyard.

if you are interested in giveaways check out my other blog for buttons to click on to take you to giveaways. sign up for my email so when i blog about a giveaway you hear it about it quickly.

any more qs? :)

just another monday

mon-mexican casserole
tues-navy bean soup
wed-chicken noodle soup
thur-bean burritos
fri-eggs and sausage

if i all of a sudden disappear it is becuz my desktop computer is on the fritz. it doesn't always come on nowadays! the laptop died a few weeks ago - we are praying they replace it!- and now the desktop!!!

it's cold here but no snow!! i am MAD!!! i love snow! now we have plastic on the windows of my old house, saving money on the electric bill that we were losing due to drafty windows but hubby chose the wrong plastic and we can't see out much! i hate it!!! but at least we are saving money. :)

my grocery budget has been cut in 1/2 and i am pleased to say that i have stayed within the new budget 2 weeks in a row and i am doing the happy dance!!! i have a little over $500 a month to feed all 9 of us and not too many ways to save with coupons since i don't have access to a lot of stores but i will make it! i promise! lol

christmas shopping is done! has been for a week or so now. i spent a grand total of $150 on all 7 children!!!!!! boy am i giddy over that!!! i won 12 giveaways that i was able to use as gifts (i even won 3 for hubby's gifts!) and i found great deals otherwise! i bought mr potato head for 50 cents- i ad-matched dollar general's ad of the toy on sale at walmart , making it $2.50 and then used a $2 off coupon. :) doing things like that save me big bucks :)

michael and i have already opened our gifts from parker! he couldn't wait! he had saved his money and bought us things and was just dying to give them to us so he did :) he gave me a wooden spoon from paula deen's line and gave michael a big bag of his favorite candy. (twizzlers) so i've been stirring and michael's been chewing. ~smile~

well i have giveaways to enter so i will go. i will post about why i do them and how- i'm FAST is the secret-later. i truly believe that by saving money i am doing one of the jobs described in proverbs 31. i save money by not spending it thus i earn money for other things. when i win a bar of soap i don't need to buy a bar of soap. :)

rememember if all of a sudden you don't hear from me it's becuz my desktop died.

SAD pray for this family

NEW PORT RICHEY, Fla. (Dec. 13) - Authorities say a Rottweiler attacked and killed a Florida toddler when the boy reached to pick up a cookie he had dropped.

Kevin Doll of the Pasco County Sheriff's Office says 20-month-old Dallas Walters was at his aunt's home during a party Saturday night. Doll says the dog attacked Dallas when the boy dropped a cookie and went to grab it.

Family members at the party managed to pry the dog off the child and then took him to a hospital. The boy later died.

Animal control has taken possession of the dog.

okay, there is the product! my take on this detergent - i liked it! i liked the fact that it wasn't filled with chemicals and that it got my clothes clean. wanna know how i know it gets my clothes clean? as you all know i have had my share of troubles with the dryer and the washing machine for a month now. somehow in the midst of all these troubles i left a semi wet towel in the dryer for a few days!! yuck!! as a real test i washed this smelly towel in Tropical Tradition's detergent to see what would happen. well it came clean and smelled just fine!!!!! amazing!

i also had the chance to use this detergent in both a toploader (courtesy of the local laundromat) and my own front loader machine. this stuff works great in both!

i will saythis- my husband did a few loads in a toploader and complained about the soap not dissolving very well- leaving clumps. when i questioned him it turned out that he had used 2x as much as he was supposed to!! so ....... i'm thinking since i had no problems it was just HIM lol!

well anyway here are the ways to enter the giveaway! first one is mandatory!
1--sub to Tropical Tradition's newsletter (very worth it!)

2--ask me a question about something you want to know about me :)

leave a comment for each :)

giveaway ends friday nite!
