my woe
UPDATE- my landlord brought us a "new" fridge. HOWEVER it is a used one he found for free! it is rusty, pitted and UGLY. it is horrible! it doesn't have brackets on the doors so i can't put anything in there. honestly ladies, it made me cry. i know that i should be grateful i have one (and i am) but i don't "deserve" this hideous rusty thing that looks like it came from the junkyard. sorry if i sound ungrateful.
how do i feel right now? FRUSTRATED! my fridge is still not working and my landlord doesn't care! argh!! he is the king of pennypinchers and i am feelin' it!
my fridge hasn't worked well for weeks now and it has been totally broken since sunday. i have an ice chest for what was in my fridge but have you stored a week's worth of food for a family of 9 in a cooler? not fun!
my landlord found out that even tho it is still under warranty he has to pay for a service call and mileage and he REFUSES to do so! can you believe that? so he is looking for a cheap repairman. well he found one yesterday and the guy was unable to fix it!!!!! the repairman felt so badly for me- hubby working til midnite taking with him the only car, icy cold rain falling thus making a walk to the store for more ice unbearable, and no way to keep anything cool any longer that he brought me his own ice chest and a bag of ice!! (yes i had already filled soda bottles with water, turning them into ice bottles a long time ago but they were being used to keep all the meat from the second freezer cold(remember i bought all that chicken last week?!) and the deep freeze was packed . packed i tell ya!!
so that has been my woe for the past few days. as much as i want to go off grid i had hoped to plan ahead a bit ya know?!
how has your week been?
oh yeah- don't forget my giveaway!

from me to you, sort of
i'm joining in the fall bloggy giveaway brought to you by joyfully living for His glory click HERE for more giveaways!

and now for my giveaway!

this is what i was blessed to receive from tropical traditions. a bag of coconut flour with which i could bake to my heart's content! and bake with it i did!
first off i made brownies. i made tropical's fudge brownies first. mmmmm! excellent!
then i made my usual brownie recipe, simply switching my wheat flour i normally use to the coconut flour. here is where i really noticed the difference! i am used to my usual brownies so i know how they taste and what their texture is like. now remember i use wheat flour and the recipe i call for says white flour so i already have to reduce the amount of wheat by 1/4 cup (since it makes items denser ). and i would, next time i make these brownies, reduce the coconut flour the same way. but all in all they were great tasting and the kids scarfed them down in no time! lol
the next thing i made was tropical traditions' pumpkin chocolate chip cookies. whoo hoo! a winner here!! we all loved them. i made them both with and without chocolate chips and each one of us has a fav now :) i will admit- i tweeked the recipe a bit- for example , instead of using spelt flour in addition to the coconut flour i used wheat and didn't notice anything "amiss" (i do this in a lot of my recipes) and i left out the nuts becuz my hubby doesn't like them. (what a shame since i have 5 pecan trees in my backyard!!)
ok onto the giveaway!! tropical traditions has offered to give one of my readers their own bag of coconut flour! simply leave me a comment telling me what you think you will bake with it. nice and easy! here is the link for the recipes!
for a second entry tweet about this great giveaway!

my weekend
well this weekend is almost over and i thought i'd blog about what i did. not much really. i got new contacts ordered, found out my eyes are perfect health-wise (yay) and planned to take all the kids in to see this great new eye dr i found :)
i made some pumpkin coffee creamer again - i hate the chemical laden ones at the store and i found this recipe at crystal's homestead kitchen .
i also cooked and froze some chicken and spaghetti meat, storing away for winter ice storms. done with all the meat prep now :)
i found some new dishtowels with fall leaves appliqued on them for $1 each at the just a dollar store and i fell in love. so i bought them! all 2! lol i also grabbed a few books for my son parker- the bookworm.
dh and i managed to get away to sonic for a few minutes. not healthy but mmmm good!
some of my daughter's and my contest winnings came in this week. a onesie for the baby, a set of handmade soaps,a dvd i am putting it away for christmas, a book i am putting away too,a cookie decorating kit, a $10 giftcard and an eye cream that i need to use for 2 weeks and then write a review about. it is loreal revitalift and so far i really like it. i reviewed their day and night cream awhile back. i do this for the bzzz campaigns.
i've been wearing leggings under my skirts and my new black boots lately due to the cold. i have also discovered long underwear for under my skirts too. ! it was 38 today.
hubby and the kids have been picking pecans for 2 days from our 5 trees- now they are asking for pie and brownies!!!
i am struggling to get the house picked up now!! the kids have basically destroyed their bedrooms so ..... "we" are working on that area right now :)
dh is putting the finishing touches on the chicken and noodles we are having for dinner. i bought all 9 packs of chicken that walmart had when it went on sale for $9 for 5 lbs packs. it's normally $15.

keeping you up to date
HR 875 http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/F?c111:1:./temp/~c1112RD9bb:e11439:
This bill is sitting in committee and I am not sure when it is going to hit the floor. One thing I do know is that very few of the Representatives have read it. As usual they will vote on this based on what someone else is saying. Urge your members to read the legislation and ask for opposition to this devastating legislation. Devastating for everyday folks but great for factory farming ops like Monsanto, ADM, Sodexo and Tyson to name a few.
I have no doubt that this legislation was heavily influenced by lobbyists from huge food producers. This legislation is so broad based that technically someone with a little backyard garden could get fined and have their property siezed. It will affect anyone who produces food even if they do not sell but only consume it. It will literally put all independent farmers and food producers out of business due to the huge amounts of money it will take to conform to factory farming methods. If people choose to farm without industry standards such as chemical pesticides and fertilizers they will be subject to a vareity of harassment from this completely new agency that has never before existed. That's right, a whole new government agency is being created just to police food, for our own protection of course.
DO NOT TAKE MY WORD FOR IT, READ THIS LEGISLATION FOR YOURSELF. The more people who read this legislation the more insight we are going to get and be able to share. Post your observations and insights below. Urge your members to read this legislation and to oppose the passage of this legislation.
Pay special attention to
* Section 3 which is the definitions portion of the bill-read in it's entirety.
* section 103, 206 and 207- read in it's entirety.
Red flags I found and I am sure there are more...........
* Legally binds state agriculture depts to enforcing federal guidelines effectively taking away the states power to do anything other than being food police for the federal dept.
* Effectively criminalizes organic farming but doesn't actually use the word organic.
* Affects anyone growing food even if they are not selling it but consuming it.
* Affects anyone producing meat of any kind including the processing wild game for personal consumption.
* Legislation is so broad based that every aspect of growing or producing food can be made illegal. There are no specifics which is bizarre considering how long the legislation is.
* Section 103 is almost entirely about the administrative aspect of the legislation. It will allow the appointing of officials from the factory farming corporations and lobbyists and classify them as experts and allow them to determine and interpret the legislation. Who do you think they are going to side with?
* Section 206 defines what will be considered a food production facility and what will be enforced up all food production facilities. The wording is so broad based that a backyard gardener could be fined and more.
* Section 207 requires that the state's agriculture dept act as the food police and enforce the federal requirements. This takes away the states power and is in violation of the 10th amendment.
* There are many more but by the time I got this far in the legislation I was so alarmed that I wanted to bring someone's attention to it. (to the one person who reads my blog)
Didn't Stalin nationalize farming methods that enabled his administration to gain control over the food supply? Didn't Stalin use the food to control the people?
Last word...... Legislate religion and enforce gag orders on ministers on what can and can't be said in the pulpit, instituting regulations forcing people to rely soley on the government, control the money and the food. What is that called? It is on the tip of my tongue..........
I haven't read any of the Senate's version of the bill as I have been poring thru the House's version. Here is the link and I hope some of you can take a look and post your observations and insights below. One thing I am pretty sure of is that very few if any Senator's have actually read the legislation and when it comes up for a vote they will more than likely take someone else's word on how they should vote. The other thing I am pretty sure about is that the legislation was probably written by lobbyists and industry experts.
S 425 http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/bdquery/z?d111:s425:
Things you can do
1. Contact your members at 202-224-3121 and ask them to oppose HR 875 and S 425. While you are at it ask them if they personally have read the legislation and what their position is? If they have not read the legislation ask them to read it and politely let them know that just because other representitives are not reading the legislation and voting on it does not mean they can do the same.
2. Get in touch with local farmers and food producers by attending a local farmers market and asking them how business is.
3. Attend a local WAPF meeting, this is a good start to learning about what is going on in farming and local & state initiatives . The website is http://www.westonaprice.org/localchapters/index.html
4. Check out the Farmers Legal Defense Fund at http://www.ftcldf.org/index.html
5. Find out who sits on your states agriculture and farming committee and contact them with your concerns.
6. Continue to contact your elected officials and let them know your position on legislation and why.
7. Get active at the local and state levels, this is the quickest way to initiate change.

i'd be livid too!
Tween Forced to Take Pregnancy Test
by Elise Nersesian
It was just a regular school day at Seven Hills Middle School in Nevada City, CA, when a guidance counselor came into a classroom and pulled a 12-year-old girl out of class. Why? Because the counselor heard rumors that she was pregnant and wanted to know if it was true, according to a recently filed lawsuit. So he forced her to take a pregnancy test.
Even though the girl protested and told the counselor, Steve Davis, a classmate was spreading rumors about her, he grabbed a pregnancy test from the school nurse (pause: why would the school nurse even have a pregnancy test?) and told the tween to give him a urine sample.
Turns out, the test was negative.
The girl: Embarrassed and humiliated. Her parents: Livid! They tried to wring an apology from the school district, but didn't receive one. Hence the lawsuit.
Yes, schools have a responsibility to help troubled kids. Parents applaud them, for example, when they phone home to say, "Little Sasha (or Henry) seemed out of sorts today." But Davis was way out of bounds. We think it's outrageous that a school official would force a girl to take a pregnancy test, especially without her parent's knowledge or consent. Why didn't the counselor just call the girl's parents if he was truly concerned? Which brings us to the real point.
What would you do if your daughter was forced to take a pregnancy test at school?

i thought to make it simple i would list 10 things i am grateful for that sometimes i forget about.
1-running water that i don't share with cattle like in india.
2- a heater to turn on when i am cold
3-an air conditioner to turn on when i am hot
4-a grocery store , right in my town, even within walking distance, that has plenty of food no matter what day or time i go there.
5-lamps that turn on at a flick if the switch.
6-cold medicine for a sick infant, right in the middle of the store. just pick it up and it's yours. no hassle.
7-apples on sale for 79 cents a pound
8-the prayers of a friend
9-eye doctors who take saturday appointments
10- 7 children that deserve more than i give them
