3rd time's the charm?

let's try this again! arlene at altered by me has won the giveaway of the coconut oil!!! email me with your addy please so i can get this out to you!

whew! winter ready!

Proverbs 31:21 She is not afraid of snow for her household, for all her household is clothed with scarlet.

well i never want to see the inside of a store again! not only did i pick up a week's worth of groceries BUT i also purchased 1 week's worth of "emergency foods and needs" just in case we are without power again. it was 2 weeks last time so i still need another week's worth!!

here's my list of menus for this week:
sun-soup and sandwiches
mon-chicken quesadillas
tues-spaghetti
wed-chicken and noodles
thur- meatloaf and potatos
fri-steak fajitas
sat-beef stroghanoff

we have a propane grill and 3 burners so we can cook with that :) :)
- i froze a few gallons of milk, tortillas, lunchmeat, cheese and butter --- i place all the food on the porch to stay frozen if need be.

i am making chili, spaghetti sauce, taco meat, seasoned chicken, and hamburger patties and freezing them. i bought canned ravioli (don't hate me!),crackers, cereals, powdered drink mix (makes safe to drink but "funky" water more palatable),pickles, applesauce, tortilla chips, peanuts, granola bars (desperate times call for desperate measures). i want to get some batteries, flashlights, dried fruit, bottled water and a few more things next paycheck. i so want my own dehydrator!!!

i also bought sweats, tights, gloves and hats- sarah knitted some too- for everyone (they lose these constantly so i will have to buy them a few more times this winter lol ), extra diapers, baby wipes for cleanups since we can't shower, extra paper towels and tp, extra heavy blankets (believe it or not i STILL need these after all the ones i have collected thru the years), sox for everybody, waterproof boots for the kids, and a few heavy skirts for my daughter. i'm still looking for some for me!

we are supplied with candles and matches and radios as well.

am i missing anything?

HGTV comebacks

it has bothered me for awhile how i can feel sometimes after watching HGTV and then comparing what i have to what i have just watched. and i have spoken to others who share those sentiments. so i have come up with a few thoughts or comebacks that we can think instead :)

when i see all the new furniture and hear how much was paid for it instead of feeling "poor" i can think "well thank God i have enough good taste that i can shop anywhere and pull something terrific together!"

instead of feeling "sad" that i don't have as large a kitchen for cooking for all 9 members of my family and seeing someone with only 1 child get a kitchen that is triple the size of mine i can think "well thank God i am talented enough to pull off great meals in any space."

instead of feeling "envious" of the families that can provide a separate bedroom for each child i can feel sad for them - their poor children will never get to have late night conversations and secret midnight"planning sessions" on how to "get mommy"

instead of feeling "distraught" that the family of 4 gets 3 bathrooms and our family of 9 has 1 i can feel relieved that i don't have to clean 3 but only 1!

instead of feeling "cheated" out of a nursery i can thank God i get to keep my little one close to me all night, for cuddles and such.

rather than whine about the bigger backyard some families have i can praise God that my husband doesn't have to mow as much and can come inside and spend time with us.

no pool? praise God i don't need to worry about drowning!

my washer and dryer are in the kitchen-- these make great extra counter space ya know!!!

my front porch has 2 barbie houses and a rescue heroes set on it instead of wicker furniture. YAY!!! it means i have blessings from the Lord!!

not too many closets? makes decluttering easier!!

ok what are your comebacks? what can you say to cheer yourself up when the HGTV blues hit?

To Be One

i was so blessed recently to review a dvd entitled "to be one"
this is a documentary featuring three couples’ journeys to marriage .
the way i chose to review this was simply by watching it and writing down anything that grabbed me or caught my attention. here is my list:

this is not a "stand up and preach at you" type of documentery but rather 3 couples and their parents reflecting on their individual courtships. 3 separate stories you can glean from.

this isn't about a set of rules but rather about a relationship with Christ.

courtship is a vision for a God-fearing marriage.

courtship is God- glorifying, seeking to lift Him up, not just about finding a mate.

not having baggage when we enter marriage.

it's Lord-led. it's different for every couple.

purity isn't just about the body. it encompasses the heart and soul, and emotions too.

it isn't love at first site but rather God opening doors.

i LOVED this collection of stories. i cried during it , becuz i see things that are missing from my marriage (dh and i weren't christian when we got married) and i soooo want these things for my children.

i recommend that you go to their site and check it out for yourself. i also found a facebook fanpage for them here

my morning

i was blessed this morning to receive a supply of apples and onions from a friend down the road.

enchanted makeovers

what if you needed to run away? take your children and run? and the only place you had to stay in was a women's shelter - that was dark, dreary and plain ugly? how would that affect your outlook on the future?

well i have found, thru my friend arlene, a woman who wants to improve that outlook for women and their children. her name is terry grahl and her website is ENCHANTED MAKEOVERS.
Enchanted Makeovers is a internationally recognized non-profit 501 (c) 3 organization that transforms shelters for women and children into places of peace and possibilities—not just where basic needs are met, but spiritual needs for hope and beauty also.
BUT these transformations take money and help from people like us.
terry did not in any way ask me to ask for donations but like any "business" they are needed. please prayerfully consider enchanted makeovers.

the swine flu info

please read HERE you will see that the swine flu is not what "the news: is making it out to be!

they will FORCE you to take the shot and can TAKE YOUR CHILDREN AWAY!

YET THE MAKERS OF THE VAX REFUSE TO TAKE IT?!!!

The Following was composed by Dr. Russell Blaylock as a method to reduce autoimmune reactions to the flu vaccines only. Do not use this if you have the flu itself. These are just general observations and not medical advice. You should work with your doctor for a specific program. taken from HERE where there are more facts about this hoax.

Treatment for Toxic Vaccine Exposure

1.

Place a cold compress on the site of the injection immediately after the injection and continue this as often as possible for at least two days. If symptoms of fever, irritability, fatigue or flu-like symptoms reoccur -- continue the cold compresses until they abate. A cold shower or bath will also help.
2.

Take fish oils -- I recommend the Norwegian fish oil made by Carlson Labs -- it has the correct balance of EPA and DHA to reduce the cytokine storm. The dose is one tablespoon a day -- if severe symptoms develop -- two tablespoons a day until well and then switch to one tablespoon a day. Children -- one teaspoon a day.
3.

Curcumin, quercetin, ferulic acid and ellagic acid as a mixture -- the first two must be mixed with extravirgin olive in one teaspoon. Take the mix three times a day (500 mg of each)
4.

Vitamin E (natural form) 400 IU a day (high in gamma-E)
5.

Vitamin C 1000 mg four times a day
6.

Astaxanthin 4 mg a day
7.

Zinc 20 mg a day for one week then 5 mg a day
8.

Avoid all immune stimulating supplements (mushroom extracts, whey protein) except beta-glucan -- it has been shown to reduce inflammation, microglial activation and has a reduced risk of aggravating autoimmunity, while increasing antiviral cellular immunity.
9.

Take a multivitamin/mineral daily (one without iron -- Extend Core)
10.

Magnesium citrate/malate 500 mg of elemental magnesium two capsules three times a day
11.

Vitamin D3:
1.

All Children -- 5000 IU a day for two weeks after vaccine then 2000 IU a day thereafter
2.

Adults -- 20,000 IU a day after vaccine for two weeks then 10,000 IU a day thereafter
3.

Take 500 mg to 1000 mg of calcium citrate a day for adults and 250 mg a day for children under age 12 years.
12.

Avoid all mercury-containing seafood
13.

Avoid omega-6 oils (corn, safflower, sunflower, soybean, canola and peanut oils)
14.

Blenderize parsley and celery and drink 8 ounces twice a day
15.

Take Jatoba tea extract (add 20 drops in on cup of tea) one day before the vaccine and the twice a day thereafter. (you can get it at http://www.iherb.com/Amazon-Therapeutics-Jatoba-1-oz-30-ml/14429?at=0) It is inexpensive.

gratituesday for september 22

for more posts like this go HERE

what am i grateful for? well of course many things spring to mind but i am gonna pick:

salvation army!

what can i tell you about this store? how fantastic is this place! i have gotten my dds many dresses there- all in perfect condition- for only $2. i have found workboot style shoes for my son for $4, instead of $15 and they looked perfect!!!

i have found the most perfect chair, with all brand new upholstery, complete with ottoman for $15. it is so gorgeous!! i have tried to take a pic but my webcam won't reach far enough. it rocks too!!

my most recent purchase- a chest of drawers for my sons' room. all solid wood- only $15. it's beautiful too. ~smile~

i buy plates, mugs and bowls for only a dollar or less. i do this becuz my kids might break them and a "set" would be ruined. by picking complimentry styles i never have to worry about that! (i never buy plastic- way too toxic!)

i have gotten binders for our notebooking for only 49 cents. several of them! this beats paying $5 for one at walmart!!

preloved paintings for $3, rugs for $5 (priced for $20 at walmart),vintage tablecloths and other linens for very little, - all of these encompass some of my finds.

i realize that not every salvation army is the same way- the one i went to in florida wasn't- but this one is !!

Giveaway Time!

that's right! i am having a giveaway. i know you all have seen Tropical Traditions coconut oil on several blogs, and have entered the giveaways associated with them. well this is another chance for you to win !

first let me tell you what i have done with my Tropical Traditions Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil.
I have used it to fry up my tortilla shells. Let me tell you, this makes the tortilla fantastic! It makes them much more flavorful then normal and the half crispy half soft texture just perfect!
I have used it in my baking. While it is hard to detect different ingredients in baked goods sometimes, I will tell you that it leaves everything flavorful without a heavy coconut taste. I also use it for greasing my pans and find it works quite well.
I have used it in my chicken stirfry and I like the taste it imparted. Plus I like knowing that coconut oil is the only oil safe to use at higher tempratures.
I have used it in my fruit smoothies. While I do detect more of a coconut flavor when I use it this way, it is a delicious one so that's a plus!
I make toothpaste with it. I mix baking soda, coconut oil and cinnamon for a safe to use toothpaste (remember my post on fluoride).Calcium is an important element present in teeth. Since coconut oil facilitates absorption of calcium by the body, it helps in getting strong teeth. Coconut oil also stops tooth decay.
I mix 1 spoonful in my cup of coffee. I have fibro and I have read that some doctors think that fibro is really a thyroid problem. Either way, some articles, including the book shown below, state that virgin coconut oil can help with either case. Since I have been putting a spoonful in each cup of coffee, which for me is a lot, I have noticed that I have less pain. Now fibro is funny but who's to say that the coconut oil isn't what is helping? Note that the FDA does not make any claims about coconut oil.
I have even slathered it on my face. While I don't have extremely dry skin I did notice that my skin had a nice feel to it and there was no greasy feeling left behind which surprised me.

BUT let me tell you what i like the most about this coconut oil and the company- it is christian based. the authors of the book above, brian and marianita jader shilhavy include his testimony of coming to know God and give the plan of salvation. i like to do business with companies that confess Jesus as their Saviour.

all you have to do to enter is tell me one thing you like about my blog. :)

for an extra entry please sub to the Tropical Traditions newsletter HERE

the giveaway will be over on friday the 25th. i will choose the winner at random and announce him/her friday at 7pm. (so you can all wait with baited breath!).

so go over to apron goddesses and enter!!

is the KJV the way to go?

think all bible versions are the same? this is just one verse that is written very diffeently. notice taht they all say Christ suffered but none except the KJV say FOR WHOM! Christ suffered for us- not just for the sake of suffering!! even the highly noted NIV doesn't "get it right"

1Pe 4:1 (KJV)
Forasmuch then as Christ hath suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves likewise with the same mind: for he that hath suffered in the flesh hath ceased from sin;

1Pe 4:1 New Living (NLT)

So then, since Christ suffered physical pain, you must arm yourselves with the same attitude he had, and be ready to suffer, too. For if you are willing to suffer for Christ, you have decided to stop sinning.

1Pe 4:1 english standard(ESV)
Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,

1Pe 4:1 NIV
Therefore, since Christ suffered in his body, arm yourselves also with the same attitude, because he who has suffered in his body is done with sin.

and where is the FIRST part of the verse? it is only in the KJV!

Rev 1:11 KJV
Saying, I am Alpha and Omega, the first and the last: and, What thou seest, write in a book, and send [it] unto the seven churches which are in Asia; unto Ephesus, and unto Smyrna, and unto Pergamos, and unto Thyatira, and unto Sardis, and unto Philadelphia, and unto Laodicea.

Rev 1:11 New Living (NLT)
It said, "Write down what you see, and send it to the seven churches: Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and Laodicea."

Rev 1:11 english standard (ESV)
saying, "Write what you see in a book and send it to the seven churches, to Ephesus and to Smyrna and to Pergamum and to Thyatira and to Sardis and to Philadelphia and to Laodicea."

Rev 1:11 (NIV)
which said: "Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea."

there are many many websites out there that show the KJV is the true bible but i will leave you with just one site (you can look up the others on your own ~wink~

the bible senders

please don't write in and say "but mine is easier to read". so what ? shouldn't you read the true Word rather than a fake one? other versions leave out entire verses- the list is way too long for me to write here!) or they only have 1/2 the verse! VERSIONS are not translations- there is a difference. :)

give yourself some credit! you can do it!

homeschooling conference

how fantastic! a homeschooling conference. i don;t know about you but i suspect that i will glean a lot from this!

i have been at this for 17 years now and have a 1 yr old to still get started so i guess you could say that i will spend most of my life homeschooling. :)

i have used a variety of curriculums and methods and i "think" i finally found what is right for me lol. it takes trial and error but you will find your way. maybe you want everything all laid out for you, with no "thought process" on your part as when to do what. that is especially great for a new homeschooler. or maybe you like to fly by the seat of your pants and do it a bit differently every day. that's fine too.

strict schedule or flextime? 5 days a week or 4? grammar intensive or only a cursory nod? living books vs textbooks? these are just some of the questions you will encounter and they are just the start!

what's great is that it all works! whatever works for you is what is best. isn't that terrific?
btw-i highly recommend the old school house magazine! and i don't get paid to say this but they have a fantastic deal going on for $7.95 subs right now.

well enough gabbing with me - head over to the conference and get started!

do you think it's just for the flu?

remember what the bible says? the mark of the beast?

Next step in H1N1 scare: Microchip implants
Company developing under-the-skin devices to detect 'bio-threats'
Posted: August 22, 2009

VeriChip's microchip implant, about the size of a grain of rice

A Florida-based company that boasts selling the world's first and only federally approved radio microchip for implanting in humans is now turning its development branch toward "emergency preparedness," hoping to produce an implant that can automatically detect in its host's bloodstream the presence of swine flu or other viruses deemed a "bio-threat."

VeriChip Corporation currently sells a small, under-the-skin Radio Frequency Identification capsule, or RFID, that patients can opt to have implanted, containing a number computer-linked to their medical records, enabling doctors with a special reader to access the information even if the patient is unconscious or unidentified. The company boasts its microchip, roughly the size of a grain of rice, is the only such implant approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

But VeriChip has also turned its attention to other uses for the technology, including microchips that be used to tag and log human remains after a disaster and implants the company hopes will be able to warn if their host is infected with the H1N1 swine flu virus, the H5N1 bird flu virus or other pandemic agents deemed to be a "bio-threat."

VeriChip is working with a Minnesota company, Receptors LLC, to develop the virus-detection technology.

"As we continue to build on our partnership with Receptors, which started with the development of a glucose-sensing RFID implantable microchip, we are moving beyond patient identification to sensors that can detect and identify illnesses and viruses such as influenza," said Scott R. Silverman, chairman of VeriChip, in a statement. "This is an exciting next step for the future of our healthcare division."

don't read if you have a tender heart

i'm serious- it's upsetting. not graphic and no pics but very very upsetting.

our country does most of it's business with china. almost everything you pick up in a store is made there. THEY are the ones who put lead paint on our toys and yet OUR country's small business owners are the ones having to stop making toys- to pay for the sins of others.
BUT

nothing like that compares to this

why is our country so in love with china?!!!!!
