there is more to mondays than menus

monday - black and white chicken stew
tuesday - chicken stir fry
wednesday - chicken tacos
thursday - chicken and veggie soup
friday - chicken and noodles

the reason we are having chicken every day is because dh and i found a great deal on chicken and we bought it all so instead of the meals i had planned i quickly came up with this list. how'd i do???

jennie asked me to repost my detergent recipe so here goes:
1 cup borax
1 cup baking soda
1 bar of ivory soap, grated into flakes
shake all together in glass jar (or a plastic container if you prefer, i just try to avoid plastic) and use 1 tablespoon per load. you can always add a little more if you need to. by the way did you know that the original dawn dishwashing liquid works great for getting oil stains out of jeans? ask me how i know!

i made another batch of yogurt and it turned out great again. i didn't stir it as long as last time and it still turned out fine. this time i added chunks of peaches and a dollop of honey to it.

i have been reading a book online about off grid living.it really is fascinating and something my family and i want to try. the link to it is a process driven life check out his side bars for links to other great off grid living websites.

i was asked by someone what i am doing for school this year. so here is a quick rundown:
parker is using saxon for math, while the girls use worksheets i get off the net.
we use spelling power for everyone.
we are using rod and staff for both phonics and english.
we are using lifepacs for science.
we are using calvary baptist for bible.
i culled books from different sources using the sonlight reading list, for history and some science.
i am ordering several readers from rod and staff for the girls.
the girls and i are making our way thru God's little princess devotional bible by sheila walsh. remember my review on it recently? ~smile
we are as a family making our way thru the little house series.

i am studying up on soaking grains. do any of you have experience on that? here is a link to one site that talks about it.

well, thats all for now, ladies, i will post about headcoverings, which i was asked about on a different day since my kids are getting loud! lol

desperate plea

please read thru the verses to get to my "commentary"

mark 5:21-43

And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, much people gathered unto him: and he was nigh unto the sea.
And, behold, there cometh one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet,
And besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lieth at the point of death: [I pray thee], come and lay thy hands on her, that she may be healed; and she shall live.
And [Jesus] went with him; and much people followed him, and thronged him
And a certain woman, which had an issue of blood twelve years,
And had suffered many things of many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse
When she had heard of Jesus, came in the press behind, and touched his garment.
For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be whole.
And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in [her] body that she was healed of that plague.
And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned him about in the press, and said, Who touched my clothes?
And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.
And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace, and be whole of thy plague.
While he yet spake, there came from the ruler of the synagogue's [house certain] which said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?
As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he saith unto the ruler of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.
And he suffered no man to follow him, save Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.
And he cometh to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and seeth the tumult, and them that wept and wailed greatly.
And when he was come in, he saith unto them, Why make ye this ado, and weep? the damsel is not dead, but sleepeth.
And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he taketh the father and the mother of the damsel, and them that were with him, and entereth in where the damsel was lying.
And he took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi; which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.
And straightway the damsel arose, and walked; for she was [of the age] of twelve years. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.
And he charged them straitly that no man should know it; and commanded that something should be given her to eat.

Set the scene in your mind. A man's daughter is dying. He is desperate, he is like any other parent, he will do anything to save his child. Jarius hears about Jesus and all the healings He has done. He leaves his daughter and travels to where Jesus is. Can you imagine how he felt, leaving his child behind? Was he afraid he'd never see her alive again? But desperation has reared it's ugly head.

He finds Jesus, makes his way through the crowd and says "Please help me." Jesus agrees to go with him. Jarius must feel a glimmer of hope. They are making their way back to Jarius' home and the crowd are thronging around Jesus. How aggravated he must have been! He must have been saying inside, "Get out of our way! My daughter needs me!"

Someone in the crowd touches Jesus. Big deal, right? Jarius has seen hundreds of people touching Jesus and Jesus keeps making His way through the crowd. But this time He stops. "What's wrong?" thinks Jarius. "You have to hurry!"

Yet Jesus stops and asks "Who touched Me?" Jarius must be thinking "You've got to be kidding me! All these people and You want to identify one touch from the crowd?"

Jesus talks with the woman who touched Him. Her story, while extremely important is not the focus here. What is the focus is that while Jesus is conversing with this woman one of Jarius' servants comes barreling through the crowd.

"Don't bother rushing now, sir - your daughter died."

Imagine hearing that your daughter died. How do you find the strength to even take your next breath?

And now, with this news stuck in his throat and his heart torn to pieces, he looks up and sees Jesus talking with that woman. "IF You had come Jesus" he thinks, "that woman! She's been ill for twelve years, she could have waited" (twelve years - what a connection. The woman had been ill for twelve years and Jarius' daughter was twelve years old.)

I don't know about you but I don't think my feeling toward that woman who stopped my child's only chance at life would be a nice one. How dare she!

But what does Jesus do? He calmly says, "Let's go." And so they do. Was there any glimmer of hope left in Jarius? Had he heard that Jesus had raised people from the dead?

They went and Jesus dismissed anyone who was busy wailing and carrying on as people will do when someone they love dies. Especially a child. I went to a child's funeral once. The screams from that mother will haunt me my entire life. This is what Jarius was hearing. How could he feel anything? Was there hope mixed in with grief mixed in with confusing mixed in with fear mixed in with devastation mixed in with searching?

What does Jesus do? He heals the girl. He commands her to get up out of bed and go eat. Spirits don't eat - I have heard that is why He had her do so, so others would know she was not a spirit but alive.

i don't know about you but i suspect that Jairus felt a mixture of joy and confusion.a feeling of maybe it's ok to breathe again.

the story ends here. my emotions don't. do yours? how should we approach Jesus? what does this say about how He approaches you? what would have been your reaction to the woman stopping Jesus? does He do that to you? where is our faith?

just another post

the appendix really does do something!!! it's not useless! go HEREi am so glad to see this cuz i knew God didn't put this organ inside of us for nothing! don't you love it when science "backs up" God? lol

if you follow me on twitter or facebook then you already know--my homemade yogurt came out great!
i tried an easier recipe than i have found before. i heated on medium heat 1/2 gallon of milk- i always buy organic whole milk- until it was at a good simmer. then i stirred for 30 min til 1/3 of the milk blended away. i took it off the burner and poured it into a glass bowl and put a lid on it. when i could stick my finger in it and hold it in til the count of 10 without screaming i added 1/4 cup of storebought yogurt- again organic and i chose vanilla- as the starter. then i let it sit overnight (8-12 hours) and added jam into the next morning. we were out of fresh fruit! we are loving it!

do you make toothpaste? i do ! i mix coconut oil, cinnamon or vanilla depending on my mood, and baking soda all together and voila! toothpaste!

well math is calling!!

FBI: Arm Boston Police With M-16s to Prepare for Terror Attack
Published on 08-20-2009

Source: WCVB Boston

BOSTON -- An FBI official said Boston police officers should be armed with assault rifles to make the city more prepared for a terrorist attack.

Warren Bamford, the special agent in charge of the FBI in Boston, said Tuesday that he is baffled by opposition to a proposal to give some neighborhood police officers the semiautomatic weapons.

In May, Boston Mayor Tom Menino criticized a proposal to arm up to 200 officers with M-16s that the police department had ordered from the U.S. military. Menino said only specially trained units should have the guns.

Bamford said he believes more officers should have access to the guns in the event Boston becomes the target of a terrorist attack like the one that killed 166 people in Mumbai, India in November.

Population Control Through Tetanus Vaccine

Reports have been widely revealed that a population control “program” in some countries has been implemented–unbeknown to its citizens– which laces a free tetanus vaccine with an abortifacient level of hCG hormone. In a nutshell, young women are being given a vaccine–repeatedly–that makes them infertile or causes multiple miscarriages.

“A BBC documentary reported that women in the Philippines and Mexico have also been used as guinea pigs for a new experimental pregnancy vaccine. The HCG vaccine makes a woman’s body reject new pregnancies. According to human rights activists, it has been administered, without the consent or knowledge of patients, as a “piggyback” vaccine in a series of tetanus vaccine programs.

Many Filipinos were initially curious as to why only women of reproductive age had been eligible for the free tetanus vaccine, especially since tetanus is more common among young men. But when women who had recently received the “tetanus vaccine” began having an inordinate number of miscarriages, this bureaucratic curiosity turned into charges of conspiracy. Subsequent lab tests of the tetanus vaccine confirmed it had indeed been laced with an HCG vaccine.”

Interesting facts about this heinous operation:

* Only women are vaccinated, and only the women between the ages of 15 and 45. (In Nicaragua the age range was 12-49.) But aren’t men at least as likely as young women to come into contact with tetanus? And what of the children? Why are they excluded?

* The vaccination protocols call for multiple injections — three within three months and a total of five altogether. But, since tetanus vaccinations provide protection for ten years or more, why are multiple inoculations called for?

* WHO has been actively involved for more than 20 years in the development of an anti-fertility vaccine utilizing hCGhttp://www.blogger.com/img/blank.gif tied to tetanus toxoid as a carrier — the exact same coupling as has been found in the Mexican-Philippine-Nicaragua vaccines

* The WHO began its “Special Programme” in human reproduction in 1972, and by 1993 had spent more than $356 million on “reproductive health” research.(7) It is this “Programme” which has pioneered the development of the abortifacient vaccine. Over $90 million of this Programme’s funds were contributed by Sweden; Great Britain donated more than $52 million, while Norway, Denmark and Germany kicked in for $41 million , $27 million, and $12 million, respectively. The U.S., thanks to the cut-off of such funding during the Reagan-Bush administrations, has contributed “only” $5.7 million, including a new payment in 1993 by the Clinton administration of $2.5 million. Other major contributors to the WHO Programme include UNFPA, $61 million; the World Bank, $15.5 million; the Rockefeller Foundation, $2.5 million; the Ford Foundation, over $1 million; and the IDRC (International Research and Development Centre of Canada), $716.5 thousand.

be prepared.

a free sample of braggs HERE

God says His people will be destroyed by their lack of knowledge thus the article below.

i recently told you all that i would not be political anymore and i'm not. i;m letting you know what is going on so you can prepare your family. i myself don't believe we can stop these bad things from happening any longer. our government KNOWS what we want and don;t want- they just don't care, they are not listening becuz they don't care. so our teaparties and protests don't tell them any thing new. BUT these new laws will affect us and we need to prepare our families. please read the article below. it is old news to me but maybe not to you. we must prepare our family and have some sort of plan. the food in the store will be extremely expensive- almost unaffordable- and will be dangerous to eat anyway, cancer causing agents will be in everything! and more than that. AND YET we will not be able to grow our own food either. remember your bible ladies! he who controls the food controls you! so please don't dismiss this as crazy talk but rather take it for what it is- a warning and a call to preparation.
my husband works in the feed industry and has had MANY of his farmers having to regualte their livestock in these ways and they are now being restricted in many ways . michael hears complaints daily about the microchips etc- so this is very real!

FOUND THIS AT NEW LIFE ON A HOMESTEAD
. your backyard will count as a farm by the way!!!

Freedom To Homestead Under Attack

Are you guys familiar with the Food Safety Enhancement Act of 2009? It’s also known as HR 2749. Honestly, I hadn’t heard anything about it until just recently. This is some scary stuff. If this bill passes through Congress, it will dramatically affect not only family farms, but the small scale homesteaders who sell ANY food products as well. And it has the potential to allow lawmakers to get their “foot in the door” to further control homesteaders who are just trying to grow food for their own families. (When I say “homesteaders” I’m including anybody who grows a garden or owns even a single chicken, goat, or other livestock.)

Under this bill, we would essentially lose the freedom to grow and consume our own food. Complying with every mandate and paying all of the required fees would make it impossible for the average homesteader or small scale farmer to be able to afford to keep legally producing their own foods.

They say this bill is to protect us from contaminated foods. In reality, it will do no more to protect us than the agencies we already have in place, but will cause so much damage to small farms that only the big food corporations will survive, and ultimately dominate the food industry. (No wonder the big food industries are backing this bill financially!)

Here is an idea of what we would be dealing with:

* A yearly registration fee of $500.
just to grow tomatos in the backyard!!

* Every single livestock animal will be required to be registered, and possibly tagged with a micro chip. Talk about expensive!

* For each animal you would be required to keep all health documents and documentation as to their origins. So, if you buy a chicken off of Craigslist, you’ll have to keep a record of who you purchased that chicken from, etc., just in case the feds raid your home and want to see your paperwork. Failing to do so would cost you a hefty fine!

* You’d have to keep a record of all persons entering the farm (or your backyard). People, we shouldn’t have to do this! The government has no business knowing who comes and goes on our own private property!

* You’d be required to keep medical certificates of every person dealing with the animals. Again, none of the governments business.

* Keep documents proving the water you give your animals meets specific criteria. We would have to constantly be sampling our well water, possibly amending it, and keeping a record of it.

* Keep samples of the feed that we give to our animals. How do they think we can possibly store samples of every batch of the feed that we give our animals??

* Keep all documents of official inspections.

* Keep records of treatment and procedures on all animals. That means every little thing that you do to your own animals would have to be documented.

* You’d be required to prevent domestic animals from roaming in and around livestock. So, if you have a pet cat or dog, or use a dog to guard your livestock, you’d be forced to separate them from the other animals, or get rid of them. Of course this would allow predators to freely attack our livestock… perhaps that is the governments plan.

* We’d have to place all of these documents at the disposal of the competent authority. Which means they would allow warrant-less searches of our property and business records.

* The FDA would regulate how crops are raised and harvested. Organic growers would be no more. The would be allowed to outlaw the use of manure, require Genetically Modified Organism (GMO) animal feed, mandating animal drugs and antibiotics, and forcing use of petrochemical fertilizers and pesticides. We would not be allowed the money saving option of growing our own natural feed for our animals.

* We would have to register our property, which means constant government surveillance via satellite.

* We would be required to document every time we take an animal off of the “farm”.

* It would give the FDA the power to order a quarantine of a geographic area, including “prohibiting or restricting the movement of food or of any vehicle being used or that has been used to transport or hold such food within a geographic area.” This means that they would have the power to shut down farmers markets (among other things), and even seize the vehicles of those selling goods within a certain area, even if their is no evidence of them being a source of contamination.

* Would establish a tracing system for our food. Each “person who produces, manufactures, processes, packs, transports, or holds such food” would have to “maintain the full pedigree of the origin and previous distribution history of the food,” and “establish and maintain a system for tracing the food that is interoperable with the systems established and maintained by other such persons.” How are we to possibly track every single thing that we use in processing our food? How burdensome and time consuming! Just another way to make it impossible for us to keep producing.

* We would be facing severe fines and penalties if we do not comply with all of these mandates. Fines of up to $100,000 for each violation, and even up to 10 years prison time!

If this bill passes, you can say goodbye to farmers markets, roadside produce stands, U-pick farms, buying from local farmers, and any other kind of food purchases from local producers. And if you are the one selling any kind of produce, meat, or even homemade jelly, you’re really in for it!

And after this they’ll attack your personal backyard garden. After all, it could be a potential health hazard for your entire community!

What scares me the most is that this reminds me so much of the book of Revelation where it talks about having to have the “mark” to be able to buy or sell. If the government takes away our freedom to grow our own food and raise our own livestock, how easy would it be for them to require a microchip or something for us to be able to purchase their food?

This bill has passed in the House, now it goes to the Senate. We need to contact our representatives and voice our concerns over this bill NOW!

School prayer charges stir protests
Educators face jail in Florida

By Julia Duin (Contact)

Originally published 04:45 a.m., August 14, 2009, updated 12:20 p.m., August 14, 2009

Students, teachers and local pastors are protesting over a court case involving a northern Florida school principal and an athletic director who are facing criminal charges and up to six months in jail over their offer of a mealtime prayer.

There have been yard signs, T-shirts and a mass student protest during graduation ceremonies this spring on behalf of Pace High School Principal Frank Lay and school athletic director Robert Freeman, who will go on trial Sept. 17 at a federal district court in Pensacola for breaching the conditions of a lawsuit settlement reached last year with the American Civil Liberties Union.

"I have been defending religious freedom issues for 22 years, and I've never had to defend somebody who has been charged criminally for praying," said Mathew Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, the Orlando-based legal group that is defending the two school officials.

An ACLU official said the school district has allowed "flagrant" violations of the First Amendment for years.

"The defendants all admitted wrongdoing," said Daniel Mach, director of litigation for its freedom of religion program. "For example, the Pace High School teachers handbook asks teachers to 'embrace every opportunity to inculcate, by precept and example, the practice of every Christian virtue.' "

The fight involving the ACLU, the school district and several devout Christian employees began last August when the ACLU sued Santa Rosa County Schools on behalf of two students who had complained privately to the group's Florida affiliate, claiming some teachers and administrators were allowing prayers at school events such as graduations, orchestrating separate religiously themed graduation services, and "proselytizing" students during class and after school.

In January, the Santa Rosa County School District settled out of court with the ACLU, agreeing to several things, including a provision to bar all school employees from promoting or sponsoring prayers during school-sponsored events; holding school events at church venues when a secular alternative was available; or promoting their religious beliefs or attempting to convert students in class or during school-sponsored events.

Mr. Staver said the district also agreed to forbid senior class President Mary Allen from speaking at the school's May 30 graduation ceremony on the chance that the young woman, a known Christian, might say something religious.

"She was the first student body president in 33 years not allowed to speak," he said.

Mr. Mach responded, "We believe students have the constitutional right to pray voluntarily in public or private. Constitutional problems arise only when public school officials promote or endorse prayer or specific religious views."

The criminal charges, which carry up to a $5,000 fine and a six-month jail term, originated with a Jan. 28 incident in which Mr. Lay, a deacon at a local Baptist church, asked Mr. Freeman to offer mealtime prayers at a lunch for school employees and booster-club members who had helped with a school field-house project.

Mr. Staver said no students were present at the event, which was held on school property but after school hours.

"He wasn't thinking he was violating an order," he said. "Neither did the athletic director. He was asked to pray and so he did."

Mr. Mach said the event was during the school day and that Mr. Lay, the school's principal, has said in writing that students were present.

"Decisions about the religious upbringing of children should be left in the hands of parents, not school officials," he said. As to whether prayer constitutes "religious upbringing," he said, "If school officials were promoting non-majority faiths and religious viewpoints, I suspect there'd be an uproar."

The ACLU brought the matter to the attention of U.S. District Court Judge M. Casey Rodgers, who issued a contempt order for the two men.

Meanwhile, members of the small community of Milton, Fla., where Pace High School is located, have contributed more than $10,000 toward a legal defense fund for the defendants.

Anti-ACLU T-shirts are also being sold and the proceeds donated.

Judge Rodgers' order also included Michelle Winkler, a clerical assistant who was attending a school district event in February with other school employees at a local naval base. There, she asked her husband to offer a blessing for a meal, says the ACLU, adding that students were present and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

"She didn't do the blessing; she asked somebody to do it," Mr. Staver said. "The ACLU is sending people to school to monitor things happening on campus and see if there is anything encouraging religious activity, then running to the court if they see anything."

Her trial, which could result in a fine, is scheduled for Aug. 21.

health benefits of coconut oil- taken from HERE

The health benefits of coconut oil include hair care, skin care, stress relief, maintaining cholesterol levels, weight loss, increased immunity, proper digestion and metabolism, relief from kidney problems, heart diseases, high blood pressure, diabetes, HIV and cancer, dental care, and bone strength. These benefits of coconut oil can be attributed to the presence of lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid, and its properties such as antimicrobial, antioxidant, antifungal, antibacterial, soothing, etc.

The human body converts lauric acid into monolaurin which is claimed to help in dealing with viruses and bacteria causing diseases such as herpes, influenza, cytomegalovirus, and even HIV.Brown Coconut It helps in fighting harmful bacteria such as listeria monocytogenes and heliobacter pylori, and harmful protozoa such as giardia lamblia. As a result of these various health benefits of coconut oil, though its exact mechanism of action was unknown, it has been extensively used in Ayurveda, the traditional Indian medicinal system.

Coconut oil is often preferred by athletes and body builders and by those who are dieting. The reason behind this being that coconut oil contains lesser calories than other oils, its fat content is easily converted into energy and it does not lead to accumulation of fat in the heart and arteries. Coconut oil helps in boosting energy and endurance, and enhances the performance of athletes.

Coconut Oil Recipes

Composition: Coconut oil consists of more than ninety percent of saturated fats (Don’t panic! First read to the last word. Your opinion may change), with traces of few unsaturated fatty acids, such as monounsaturated fatty acids and polyunsaturated fatty acids. Virgin Coconut Oil is no different from this. Let us have a bit detailed study of this.

* The Saturated Fatty Acids: Most of them are Medium Chain Triglycerides, which are supposed to assimilate well. Lauric Acid is the chief contributor, with more than forty percent of the share, followed by Capric Acid, Caprylic Acid, Myristic Acid and Palmitic.
* The Polyunsaturated Fatty Acids: Linoleic Acid.
* The Monounsaturated Fatty Acids: Oleic Acid.
* The Poly-phenols: Gallic Acid, which is phenolic acid. These poly-phenols are supposed to be responsible for the fragrance and the taste of Coconut Oil and Virgin Coconut Oil is rich in these poly-phenols.
* Certain derivatives of fatty acid like Betaines, Ethanolamide, Ethoxylates, Fatty Esters, Fatty Polysorbates, Monoglycerides and Polyol Esters.
* Fatty Chlorides, Fatty Alcohol Sulphate and Fatty Alcohol Ether Sulphate, all of which are derivatives of Fatty Alcohols.
* Vitamins (predominantly Vitamin-E) and minerals.
* A bit of moisture.

Health benefits of coconut oil include the following:

* Hair Care: Coconut oil is one of the best natural nutrition for hair. It helps in healthy growth of hair providing them a shinny complexion. Regular massage of the head with coconut oil ensures that your scalp is free of dandruff, lice, and lice eggs, even if your scalp is dry. Coconut oil is extensively used in the Indian sub-continent for hair care. It is an excellent conditioner and helps in the re-growth of damaged hair. It also provides the essential proteins required for nourishing damaged hair. It is therefore used as hair care oil and used in manufacturing various conditioners, and dandruff relief creams. Coconut oil is normally applied topically for hair care.
* Stress Relief: Coconut oil is very soothing and hence it helps in removing stress. Applying coconut oil to the head followed with a gentle massage helps in removing mental fatigue.
* Skin Care: Coconut oil is excellent massage oil for the skin as well. It acts as an effective moisturizer on all types of skins including dry skin. The benefit of coconut oil on the skin is comparable to that of mineral oil. Further, unlike mineral oil, there is no chance of having any adverse side effects on the skin with the application of coconut oil. Coconut oil therefore is a safe solution for preventing dryness and flaking of skin. It also delays wrinkles, and sagging of skin which normally become prominent with age. Coconut oil also helps in treating various skin problems including psoriasis, dermatitis, eczema and other skin infections. Therefore coconut oil forms the basic ingredient of various body care products such as soaps, lotions, creams, etc., used for skin care.
* Premature Aging: Coconut oil helps in preventing premature aging and degenerative diseases due to its antioxidant properties.
* Heart Diseases: There is a misconception spread among many people that coconut oil is not good for the heart. This is because it contains a large quantity of saturated fats. However, coconut oil is beneficial for the heart. It contains about 50% lauric acid, which helps in preventing various heart problems including high cholesterol levels and high blood pressure. The saturated fats present in coconut oil are not harmful as it happens in case of other vegetables oils. It does not lead to increase in LDL levels. It also reduces the incidence of injury in arteries and therefore helps in preventing atherosclerosis.
* Weight Loss: Coconut oil is very useful in reducing weight. It contains short and medium-chain fatty acids that help in taking off excessive weight. It is also easy to digest and it helps in healthy functioning of the thyroid and enzymes systems. Further, it increases the body metabolism by removing stress on pancreases, thereby burning out more energy and helping obese and overweight people reduce their weight. Hence, people living in tropical coastal areas, who eat coconut oil daily as their primary cooking oil, are normally not fat, obese or overweight.
* Pancreatitis: Coconut oil is also believed to be useful in treating pancreatitis.
* Digestion: Internal use of coconut oil occurs primarily as cooking oil. Coconut oil helps in improving the digestive system and thus prevents various stomach and digestion related problems including irritable bowel syndrome. The saturated fats present in coconut oil have anti microbial properties and help in dealing with various bacteria, fungi, parasites, etc., that cause indigestion. Coconut oil also helps in absorption of other nutrients such as vitamins, minerals and amino acids.
*Immunity: Coconut oil is also good for the immune system. It strengthens the immune system as it contains antimicrobial lipids, lauric acid, capric acid and caprylic acid which have antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties. The human body converts lauric acid into monolaurin which is claimed to help in dealing with viruses and bacteria causing diseases such as herpes, influenza, cytomegalovirus, and even HIV. It helps in fighting harmful bacteria such as listeria monocytogenes and heliobacter pylori, and harmful protozoa such as giardia lamblia.
* Healing: When applied on infections, it forms a chemical layer which protects the infected body part from external dust, air, fungi, bacteria and virus. Coconut oil is most effective on bruises as it speeds up the healing process by repairing damaged tissues.
* Infections: Coconut oil is very effective against a variety of infections due to its antifungal, antiviral, and antibacterial properties. According to the Coconut Research Center, coconut oil kills viruses that cause influenza, measles, hepatitis, herpes, SARS, etc. It also kills bacteria that cause ulcers, throat infections, urinary tract infections, pneumonia, and gonorrhea, etc. Coconut oil is also effective on fungi and yeast that cause candidiasis, ringworm, athlete's foot, thrush, diaper rash, etc.
* Liver: The presence of medium chain triglycerides and fatty acids helps in preventing liver diseases as they substances are easily converted into energy when they reach the liver, thus reducing work load on the liver and also preventing accumulation of fat.
* Kidney: Coconut oil helps in preventing kidney and gall bladder diseases. It also helps in dissolving kidney stones.
* Diabetes: Coconut oil helps in controlling blood sugar, and improves the secretion of insulin. It also helps in effective utilization of blood glucose, thereby preventing and treating diabetes.
* Bones: As mentioned earlier, coconut oil improves the ability of our body to absorb important minerals. These include calcium and magnesium which are necessary for development of bones. Thus coconut oil is very useful to women who are prone to osteoporosis after middle age.
* Dental Care: Calcium is an important element present in teeth. Since coconut oil facilitates absorption of calcium by the body, it helps in getting strong teeth. Coconut oil also stops tooth decay.
* HIV and Cancer: It is believed that coconut oil plays an instrumental role in reducing viral susceptibility of HIV and cancer patients.

got a tortilla?

if you have a flour tortilla you have a meal!
well, all right, you might want to add something to it and that is what this post is about, what you can add to a tortilla to make a meal.

an easy breakfast torilla - spread cream cheese on it, top with fruit and roll it up. voila! another variation would be cream cheese and jelly or even peanut butter and jelly.

beans and rice on a tortilla are a mexican staple. they work equally well on corn tortillas.

sprinkle cheese and roll it up and stick a toothpick thru it. then warm it up and you have a plain cheese quesadillas that it seems all kids love.

hamburger and other taco fixins for your traditional soft taco.

well seasoned refried beans topped with cheese make a better bean burrito then taco bell sells!

shredded chicken and the fixins or shredded steak and the fixins are a quick, easy, and delicious meal.

shredded chicken and spanish rice are another great filling.

shredded chicken, green peppers and onions sauteed together and placed on a warm tortilla makes a fantastic meal - according to my husband :)

a cheater's pizza - take a tortilla and spread tomato sauce or spaghetti sauce on it. add cooked hamburger and any other pizza fixins you want. top with cheese and add another tortilla on top and warm up! now you have a pizza sandwich made from tortillas!

try sliced swiss cheese and mushrooms in a rollup.

egg burritos are a great meal for breakfast, lunch or dinner! scramble eggs with salsa and place on a tortilla. top with cheese - mmm, good!

spread your tortilla with butter, sprinkle cinnamon and brown sugar liberally and toast in the oven @400 for 15 minutes. then you have a great sweet treat.

do you have any ideas to share?

no more politics!

after several "run-ins" with the "law" recently i really don't want to do any more. what a shame cuz i believe that some people learn from my blog but i won't be able to tell them anything else.

i will continue homemaking posts only.

The White House is under fire for a blog post asking supporters to send "fishy" information received through rumors, chain e-mails and casual conversations to a White House e-mail address, flag@whitehouse.gov.

Conservatives have pounced on the request, accusing the White House of acting Orwellian.

"If you get an e-mail from your neighbor and it doesn't sound right, send it to the White House?"said Sen. John Barasso, R-Wyo. " People, I think all across America are going to say is this 1984? What is happening here? Is big brother watching?"

Radio host Rush Limbaugh accused the White House of using heavy-handed tactics.

"They're looking for tattletales,"he said. "They're looking for snitches. They're looking for informants."

Sen. John Cornyn, R-Texas, charged the White House with compiling an "enemies list."In a letter to the president, Cornyn urged Obama to provide Congress with more details on what the White House plans to do with anyone reported for "fishy"speech.

"I am not aware of any precedent for a president asking American citizens to report their fellow citizens to the White House for pure political speech that is deemed 'fishy' or otherwise inimical to the White House's political interests,"he wrote.

"You should not be surprised that these actions taken by your White House staff raise the specter of a data collection program. As Congress debates health care reform and other critical policy matters, citizen engagement must not be chilled by fear of government monitoring the exercise of free speech rights,"he wrote.

The controversy is part of a larger debate on health care reform that has led Democrats to portray town hall audiences protesting a Democratic-sponsored bill as angry mobs duped into hostile actions by special interest groups.

The Democratic National Committee released a Web video and e-mail on Wednesday blasting opponents of the 10-year, $1 trillion plan.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said lawmakers will continue to press for reform "in spite of the loud, shrill voices trying to interrupt town hall meetings."

Republicans say counter that lawmakers have a responsibility to listen to constituents and their concerns.

in the meanwhile

i am working on a homemaking entry but in the meanwhile watch this and especially note the comments at the end.
sisters- please don't hide your heads in the sand. God says in His Word " my people die for lack of knowledge"
please note the trails and imagine what you would think of all this if it wasn't the president but just "somebody". you'd add 2 and 2 together. do the same here!

Watching TV: Even Worse for Kids Than You Think
Time.com

By ALICE PARK Alice Park – Wed Aug 5, 4:00 am ET

It's no secret that sedentary behavior contributes to obesity and chronically poor health. But not all sedentary behaviors are created equal, according to a new study that examines the link between blood pressure in children and their choice of inactive pastimes, including watching TV, using the computer and reading.

Researchers in the U.S. and Spain collaborated on the study of 111 children ages 3 to 8 and found that of all the forms of inactivity they examined, television-viewing was the worst. It was linked to significantly higher blood pressure in children - the more TV kids watched, the higher their blood pressure - and the effect held true regardless of whether a child was heavy or at a healthy weight. What's more, other sedentary behaviors, like using a computer, were not associated with similar blood-pressure hikes, according to the study, which was published in the Archives of Pediatric and Adolescent Medicine. (See the 100 best TV shows of all time.)

"These results show that sedentary behavior, and more specifically television-viewing, is related to blood pressure independent of body fat or obesity level," says Dr. Joey Eisenmann, a kinesiologist at Michigan State University and one of the study's co-authors.

To determine levels of inactivity over one week, the children in the study wore accelerometers, which resemble pedometers but instead of tracking distance, they record the body's acceleration in a vertical plane - sitting results in a score of zero, and walking and running produce progressively higher scores. The researchers considered anything under a score of 50 per day as sedentary. They coupled this data with reports from the children's parents about how much time the kids spent in inactive pursuits, including watching television, sitting at a computer, playing video games, reading or doing other projects that don't require much movement.

The children were sedentary for five hours each day, and 1.5 of those hours were spent in front of a TV, computer or video game, on average. When the researchers further broke down screen time by activity, TV-viewing had the strongest correlation with higher blood pressure. Kids watching from 90 to 330 minutes of television each day had systolic and diastolic blood-pressure readings (the two numbers that indicate pressure caused by blood pumping from the top and bottom chambers of the heart, respectively) that were five to seven points higher than those of children watching less than half an hour of television a day. (Read about how sex on TV increases the risk of teen pregnancy.)

"These results show that TV-viewing really is the worst of all possible sedentary activities," says Dr. David Ludwig, director of the Optimal Weight for Life Program at Children's Hospital Boston, who was not part of the study. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children under 2 should not watch any television and that older children limit their viewing to one to two hours per day.

So what is it about watching TV that's worse than playing video games or surfing the Internet? Certainly, playing games and using computers involve some movement, like fidgeting or changing body positions, but is that enough to explain the difference? The study's authors propose several other possible explanations. For instance, beyond the complete inactivity involved with TV-viewing - which alone raises the risk of high blood pressure - children may be compounding their sloth by eating junk food. "A full bag of chips or a plate of hot dogs can disappear a lot more quickly while watching TV than they might at any other occasion," says Ludwig. And the types of foods that children are likely to be eating in front of the tube, like salty snacks, can push up blood pressure readings.

In addition, say the authors, if kids watch TV too close to bedtime, their minds may remain stimulated just enough to keep them awake and miss out on precious hours of sleep. Cutting short a good night's slumber, past research suggests, can lead to weight gain and hypertension, since the body's metabolism doesn't have enough opportunity to recharge and renew itself overnight.

To those reasons, Ludwig adds a few others. Previous studies have found that watching television lulls people, especially young children, into a low-energy state that is akin to sleeping - that's about as sedentary as a person can get. "Some studies suggest that the metabolic rate can fall even below that of sleeping," he says. "They suggest that children are getting into some deep hypnotic state at times." (See the top 10 TV series of 2008.)

Worse yet is the content of television programming, which Ludwig suggests may have long-lasting repercussions. "There is the possibility that the greatest long-term impact of TV viewing is on children's eating habits through food commercials," he says. Some experts estimate that youngsters are bombarded with 10,000 food commercials each year during children's programming, and most of them aren't promoting salads or fruit. All this marketing, says Ludwig, changes children's taste preferences and causes them to crave - and beg for - unhealthy foods. "Children are seeing these commercials at an age when they are just establishing eating habits that can become ingrained and last a lifetime," he says.

Eisenmann stresses that while the new study found an association between TV-viewing and higher blood-pressure readings, it did not measure whether children developed hypertension. However, in previous studies involving the same group of children, whom he and the other scientists have been studying for four years, about 20% of the children had developed prehypertension or hypertension - often because of weight gain.

Although the study did not follow the children over time, the findings still suggest that TV-viewing has a strong influence on the health of young children. Environmental and lifestyle factors, like diet and inactivity, account for about 70% of a person's blood pressure (genes determine the rest), and high blood pressure at a young age may increase kids' risk of developing heart disease in adulthood. "There is no fundamental biological need for TV-viewing in childhood," says Ludwig. "So these findings certainly warrant follow-up."

Heisman Winner Tim Tebow's Virginity Pledge Leaves Reporters Speechless

by Kevin Roeten
August 3, 2009

The Heisman winner in 2007 did it again. Reporters couldn't believe what they heard, and were speechless. University of Florida quarterback Tim Tebow, who engineered his winning the Heisman, and two national championships, actually spoke the “V” word. To the accompanying reporters’ shock, he said he was a “virgin”, and would remain so until marriage.

Tim Tebow had originally been conceived by Pam Tebow who had actually gone into a coma from contracting amoebic dysentery during her pregnancy. Doctors told Pam she needed to abort because the strong medications she took may have caused irreversible damage to Tim. She refused to abort, and later at Florida Tim won the Heisman.

Any college football fan would know about Tim Tebow, the muscular Christian who plays quarterback for the Florida Gators. A more descriptive story by Austin Murphy in Sports Illustrated is in this feature about Tebow, which describes his history much better.

One has to wonder what would have happened if Tim was aborted 20 years ago as the doctors recommended. Certainly Florida would have not gained a Heisman winner, or likely two national championships. Besides all the football records lately built up by the Gators, the team, led by Tebow, is breaking records with community service hours and work with the poor and the needy. So much so, that the head football coach decided it was time for him to sign up as well.

We know that all those people, if they had not been affected by Tebow in the Florida prisons, would be stealing, killing, and certainly having more abortions. They would be passing those traits on directly to their kids--at least the ones who hadn't been aborted.

All this is likely true for his affect on the thousands of Filippinos he encountered. What about the hundreds of players his football coach will affect during his continued tenure as head coach? And certainly the thousands of kids Tim has affected from his announcement of virginity until marriage. It shouldn't even be discussed the lives that will be saved by those kids deciding not to abort, and deciding to wait until marriage for sex. It’s obvious more abortions will be eliminated by that action alone.

Even the South Florida Sun Sentinel lately got into the fray by announcing this real-live football star was in their midst. Their words affected people. Those people affected other people. Even reading this column might affect you.

Evidently from the SI article, it seems as though with Tebow’s past missionary, prison, and future NFL work, the football phase of his life seems to be merely a means to a greater end. How many other unknown heroes have done the same thing? One thing is certain—you'll never hear our president say the same thing about abortion or chastity in marriage. Maybe Tebow’s final senior year the Heisman will come knocking on his door one more time.

It seems as though we've just received a breath of fresh air…

angry!

i am angry tonite.
as some of you know i was on facebook for a while. after some things happened there, i chose to leave and i thought i was doing a good thing by warning others that these things can and do happen.
here is what happened to me
in checking my son's facebook page i found someone that he didn't know had sent him a friend request. this person's profile picture was of a totally nude woman.
i was added to someone's friends list without my consent. i did not know this person and looking at his page, i did not want to know this person! i found out this happened to a friend of mine also - both things that i mentioned happened to other friends.
i have had people added to my friends list that i did not know. not a request but they were automatically added.
in googling this problem i found out that it has been occurring for about six years and many hundreds of people have had this same problem.
i was very concerned and disgusted by the nasty pictures that appear when you send a gift to someone.

if this has not happened to you that's great! but instead of appreciating the heads up i was giving in each group of people that i sent this information to i was literally attacked and called a liar. simply because it had not happened to them. i have never had a broken leg but other people have, should i call them a liar when i see them wear a cast?
i was even told by one person that if i were going to send questionable gifts then i should expect to see nasty pictures. i sent bible verses and pictures of kittens - which one of these qualifies as questionable material? she even had the nerve to say that none of the other ladies ever sent the items that i must be sending!!
there have been news stories in the national news of facebook selling your pictures to the highest bidder and being used in questionable ads and yet some naive people think that it can never happen simply because they marked the word private on their account. so did those people! i am referring to the stories of the woman finding her picture in a hots singles ad and the mother finding her baby's picture in a up for adoption scam.
ladies, just because it doesn't happen to you doesn't mean that it doesn't happen. and HOW DARE YOU CALL ME A LIAR OR INSINUATE THAT I SENT DIRTY GIFTS ON FACEBOOK?! I USED MY PAGE TO WITNESS TO OTHERS (AS SO MANY OF YOU SAID I SHOULD HAVE BEEN DOING INSTEAD OF THE NASTY THINGS I WAS OBVIOUSLY DOING) AND TO ALERT OTHERS TO POLITICAL NEWS.
i was offended, i was angry, and i was saddened that so called christian women would stoop so low as to say those things about me when i was only trying to warn others.
i have removed myself from my groups, facebook, and anything else that i felt necessary. it's a shame that i have to cut myself off from like minded women but there are too many UNlikeminded women in the mix and i just don't have the time to be attacked on a daily basis.
